As a fresh developer (thinking about starting the one game a month challenge :P), seeing this done in a week is pretty impressive!
Nice concept, really cool style (with that kind of a short deadline and without an artist, we have to do with simplicity, but the result is sometimes really really cool, and that's the case here)
btw. what did you code this in?

I used Unity to make the game, coding in C#. The ship models were made in Maya, which I can sorta kinda myself around in once in a while.
I highly encourage you to take up the game a month challenge. I'm almost done with my second week of this game a week thing, and I can already feel myself learning and asking tougher questions about game design.
