*FACEPALM* *PALMDESK* Duh. I picked up ammo from kills. >.< Anyway, to make this comment worth something... MY MULTIPLAYER ARENA INPUT: 1) No warpgates or stations, 2) a 360 degree barrier to space so its truly an arena, 3) Filled with bots of all strengths so players have to balance the bots vs. the other player(s?), 4) Players can bring whatever ship and weapons they want but no modules, 5) Instead of (in addition to?) asteroids there are modules to farm. So it becomes this fight to see who is better at managing bots & farming in addition to simply fighting another player. I thought of this because I was concerned over battles being too "stagnant" with opponents using the same AI targeting. I think the bots & module farming fixes this?
BUG REPORT(?): I counted the number of projectile shots left and loaded one cannon with the exact number of ammo to reach 5000 and it was over by a good 3 dozen; was this somehow deliberate?
Just wanna say the AF absolutely rocks! I'm getting this "genuine pilot-ing" feel from it which is just amazing while dogfighting among dozens of enemy ships of varying strength -- thanks for the best ship eva! *\:D/*
Just a sort of personal comment. Anyone ever see Wrath of Khan? Where he is thinking in just two dimensions in space? That's how I fly; I think "left" & "right" and I let the comp do "up" and "down". Its like all I am concerned with is distance and to which side the enemies are. I don't think there will ever be a way to change that but I had a thought about a "3D Space Flight Trainer" where there is a tunnel you fly through that goes in all four directions & then maybe in random directions 360 degrees.
Interesting suggestion!? Have a setting for the galaxy to be unmapped!? At first its LOL vaporized as you enter the final zone in a mixed setting but then you could jump out really quick if that was the case... It would add this excellent exploration aspect to the procedural galaxy... :D
I'm not a game designer but I am actually wondering if allowing steering with the Auto Target ON is a little bit OP; I mean the engines are essential to survival and without them death is certain but being able to steer with the comp selecting your targets FOR YOU? Meh. Methinks we are getting off a little bit too easy there... Just mho.
GAME SUGGESTION: Since there are energy & hull modules in the game, I would suggest that death should have more of a bite either: A) A badge that indicates completion without death or B) You die, you start over automatically. I think this would be good because it would amp up the pressure of the game because now death is pretty much meaningless, you only lose from your last dock.
For those that say this game is easy and dogfighting is not required, try customizing the setting at the beginning with max enemy pack size & max enemy strength; add in amped up spawn rate for extra credit. I guarantee you will need to learn to dogfight to survive. :D
there will be a bunch more galaxy options coming, and some KONG account persistant achievements that are NOT links to an individual save game. things like... win without mining a rock, or kill all officers without dying... these will be displayed as FLAGS that hang in the stations throughout the game. :)
"E" ISSUE: When the Auto-Target selection is "OFF" and a target is manually selected the AI will shut down the engines; "E" still does not engage them. I would like so much to have the freedom to target an individual enemy and then manually navigate away with no target selected but without the "E" engaging the engines, I can't :'(
Thanks for all the awesome updates! Having a ton of fun!!
GAME SUGGESTION: I would recommend that pirates switch from patrolling the gates to the asteroids fields; like half patrol both or all toggle from one to the other. I think this would make the game more interesting because mining would be more challenging. I was actually thinking the bots did this because my first game when I first discovered that purple ore used for jewelry, the bots wouldn't leave me alone! I think the concept of patrolling the asteroid fields (maybe the valuable ones?) would be kewl. Awesome game! :D
Here's my issue. I play on the hardest settings so, swarms of maxed out pirates. I like playing on zoomed in when I fight but because the Autopilot perma-shuts-down the engines, I must always have a target selected in order to engage the engines (because the AI shut them down); using the list is unreliable and an extra click which is too slow. Because of this, I have to play in zoomed-out mode so I can reliably select targets which means I don't get to see the stunning 3D or have that "first person" feel in combat. I don't see what's so wrong with allowing "e" to function with the auto-pilot on? Why do the engines have to perma-shut-down? AWESOME GAME! Kong is a kewl place to develop games huh?
Appreciate all the frequent updates on this awesome game! I can no longer use "E" to turn on my thrusters to manually pilot the ship. :'( I think this connected to the "autopilot" shutdown of afterburners? Manually turning on thrusters is required to survive on the hardest settings... :(
Newb Pirate: Pirate Leader we have Farmer John here at the Gateway; is there any chance you can show up a little earlier? Pirate Leader: No can do Newb Pirate; working on my sun tan out here. Why don't you ask your newb friends, you got like 1000+ of them? Newb Pirate: Roger that Pirate Leader... XD
ill add this to the options list.
