There’s two types of ‘levels’ in Gemcraft 0. There’s the levels you go through, which are indivdually numbered, and I’ll call ‘stages’ and your wizard level, which is your experience.
The hard badge asks you to get to wizard level 50.
The medium badge asks you to defeat an Arcane Guardian.

By simply playing through the game, you’ll reach an arcane guardian at stage 16, i think. Defeating that will get you the medium badge.
Oh, and (i’m not there yet so i’m not sure) Stage 77 is another Arcane Guardian, and that’s the other hard badge.
