Hi! You can choose not to give him the gems (by clicking the second option which says 'No thanks'). This will eventually make him reduce his 'price' to 10 gems. Hope this helps you!
Easy way to beat much of the later stages. First off, this works best on the naturally low lying levels. You have to build up the land high up, then build your tribe as you would normally on that high ground. Once you can use water storm, use it and set your troops to settle. After the wave destroys the low land and the top of your land, your troops will set up houses again and almost all of your enemies will be gone. Then you can just use fire to take them out or you can build a bridge to them.
