It is Space-Invaderish, now that you mention it. I agree wholeheartedly that if it incorporated a larger map (with said obstacles and natural shields, harbors, etc.) truer sailing physics with variable wind speed and direction (maybe even storms), and more intricate battle tactics, this could be something I played all day long. As it is, I spent several hours on it.
But don't OVER-complicate it. I've played and yawned over too many of those kinds. Can anyone recommend something like what I've described?
The split keyboard/mouse controls in a 360-degree environment like this can be difficult (i.e. I might prefer two rotate buttons instead of aiming with the mouse). But still, it's a beautiful game. I wished it didn't stop at level 50; I was imagining endless geometric variations and behavior patterns for enemies.
Something odd has happened to me in this game where on all my new restarts, my balls have no effect on most asteroids, and they continue on their path, killing me in 12 seconds. I had made it to a suspicious 398 and 397 before (I find the "seconds" to be waaaay off).

Wait a minute. I must re-emphasize that this game is maddening (though I love it). Not enough extra-man bonuses, and that ship is way too tricky for a second-level boss. Give a shoota' some help! (And a pause button for when the boss walks by!)
Fantastic old-school game, though it leads to rapid addiction and occasional rage, like when you're one orb from a high-level power-up and die. Wish there were a few more continues, and is there a way to pause it?
