I've become fond of multiple elementals in later levels. Being able to stun and quake towers every round for the first 5-6 rounds is usually enough to get the gold I found. I still use golems and healers, but I definitely prefer elementals to Cleansing Warlocks.
I think the real strength of this game is it's continuous interaction. You always have something to be doing, depending on what power up you have, there's different things to be doing, and if you're building up money you're just two quick clicks from getting right back into the action rather than getting bogged down in the upgrade screen every time.
I'm so used to games where clicking "Read Instructions" means getting to see the tutorial twice, I didn't bother in this case. Big mistake. Not knowing you can double jump and glide made my first few runs a little short :p
Man, I am getting all the stuff in this game because every moment of doing it is fun and awesome. This made it very weird to learn they also made that burger game which I disliked enough that I gave up before getting it's easy badge.
@zerocreature: There's just not a need to upgrade every unit after every battle. Choosing which ones actually need leveling up or replacing is just part of the strategy of the game. I sometimes won't upgrade any units between battles, or only replace one if that one is particularly ill suited for what I'm going up against. The latest and highest level units don't mean a thing if they're weak against whatever your opponent is throwing at you, and it usually don't require that much change in your troops to get the advantage.
@Sebas: The Garden Gate one was annoying at least. There weren't a huge number of points to pick up the logic from and they'd peter out before too long so you'd need to find a new one. That said, once I gave up trying to use the game's logic to solve the puzzle and just started drawing what was obviously the pattern from other parts of the picture, I got it done in no time.
I wish there was an option to make some marks lighter than others. I'll have a bunch of marks I'm 100% certain of, when I'll reach a corner where that requires a little messing around with to work, and it can be difficult keeping track of which ones I'm certain of and which I'm experimenting with. There's work arounds for this, like working out those on a sheet of paper, or taking a screen shot, but it'd be nice if there was an in game mechanic. Logic will get you there, but it sometimes requires a little experimentation.
I feel like the prevalence of RPG elements have spoiled people a little so that instead of trying new strategies or combinations of units, they think the solution has to be grinding to be the max level. Leveling actually doesn't make a huge difference in this game, but unit selection does, and the latest most expensive units can be vulnerable to things from previous levels, hence why you have people complaining about tanks being killed by snipers, and why I try to keep my light unit till the very end.
After playing this a few times I'm finding the unit balance. I think somewhat hilariously, the counter to a lot of units is the light units you get at the start. Samurai that slice robots? Not very effective against a swarm of lights who'll just be back next round. Snipers? Also rapidly overtaken and killed by swarms of lights. Now just lights won't get you very far, but I think my biggest screw up the first time was giving them up.
The game is a little easy though. Yeah, pretty much build up resources, and in my case, release a couple good units (even lancers will do the trick) then a hell of a lot of fodder units, and have a fireball in your hand in case things get hairy and you will always win.
Picked up a guy who looked like my dream man with a terrible hat and stupid glasses to pick up some happiness waiting for THE ONE. Turns out that he was a romantic millionaire who loves to go shopping. After that I guess I decided looks really aren't everything.
I seem to be getting bogged down a lot in the later part of this game. I go into a bubble, the game freezes, I hear a lot of shooting sounds, and then eventually once I've won I get control back. I'm not even running anything besides my browser right now.
