(Continued) Project Legacy does this by showing events with pictures and sound. Each area has a new video explaining what is happening and each event has its own artistic picture that follows it. This lets the player feel like they are doing something different each time. In this game I'm turning autopilot on and killing some green lizard thing for the fifteenth time. The connection there is lost.
I like the game and really tried to give the story a shot but it becomes tedious after a while.
I feel like the story really suffers from how the game is presented. It presents itself with these huge walls of texts and that is usually enough to scare away most people but then you have how the game doesn't let you play for too long. I tried to keep up but after a day or so it becomes hard to see it all play out.
A good example of a similar game that managed to keep me interested in the story is Project Legacy. It's a facebook game that shows the background events of the Assassin's Creed universe. With that I already know some of the characters, some of the events (they are history based after all) and have some general idea of what is happening. Now you don't get to start off with that advantage so showing the entire *story thus far* as huge paragraphs of text doesn't help at all. You need to draw the player into the universe you created. Ok the problem with this game's leveling system is similar to Oblivion's. You level up your skills much faster than you level up your character. When you level up, all you do is get some small bonus and possibly a new skill every few times. If you just pour money into skill boosting food and say screw exp, you'll end up with a character that is extremely overpowered and has no trouble defeating the end game boss. I was at level 20 and boosted had nearly 400 points in Agility and Intelligence and it was an absolute breeze. The game needs to make leveling up worthwhile, other wise doing stuff for cups is just a tedious attempt to progress the game.
I get a real Halo vibe from playing this game. I think it's from the whole alien-marine thing set in the future combined with the kill streaks and bonuses.
Since I love me some Halo, that's a good thing.
@Blueman63 You stopped leveling because you reached the level cap of the location you are in. You have to move to a better location to gain more levels.
Happiness only falls if you rush your workers to finish something. If you never rush them then they'll be happy just working and you never need to give them a day off.
