Also, why have Up make you jump when you already have a jump button? And why does it take so long to kill enemies? They aren't challenging to avoid, so instead of making the game more difficult all it does is make the game more tedious.
Such a simple mistake, but the button on the left (X) should shoot and the button on the right (C) should jump. It's been like that for all time, it just feels more natural. Also, why is it X and C instead Z and X? And why press down to enter doors? Such bizarre choices make the game feel off kilter, and not in a good way.
Can we put a moratorium on pretentious flavor text that doesn't have anything to do with the game? "You take off and realize how small you are." It has NOTHING to do with the game. It's just a poor attempt to imitate Braid, like everything else about the game. Just make the game fun, stop worrying about trying to make it "deep".
There are a lot of little problems (and a couple big glitches, like occasionally the character is completely unable to move. Even after saving, quitting, and reloading the game) but the big picture is probably the best gaming depiction of the zombie genre ever. Everything from traversing the city, the RPG elements, perfect. I don't think side-scrolling is necessarily the best format for such a game (top-down view may have been better) but for a flash game, this is incredible.
If this wasn't a video game, I doubt so many people would be talking about how "touching" and "emotional" it's story is. The only thing I liked about it was how you incorporated sound effects into the music. The rest of the game was emotionally cloying and manipulative bull.
Thanks for trying something new, though. Experiments are always appreciated, even when they're failed experiments like this one.
