The game does have strafe movement. It's assigned to "a" and "d" by default but can be changed. Actually look in the controls menu.

I actually really enjoyed this.Though, I kind of wish there were options to turn off the jumps and red gates in exchange for your scores not counting. A free run mode would work great with this game.
