Feels like there's a steep climb in difficulty between 4 skulls and 5 skulls, much more so than expected. I went along fine through the 1-4 skull areas, gathering things, feeling confident about my strategies and progress, and then got beat down by a vamp lord before I could blink. The rest of the game is so nicely progressive that the jump feels weird and I'm now really crossing my fingers that I don't have to start over with a new game and do all the grinding using different skills just to beat the game.
Ran into a glitch: the first time the game loaded the first level, I somehow spawned outside of the maze and was stuck in the confused position of running up and down almost completely off the left side of the screen before I reloaded the page and was properly respawned. It wouldn't have been so bad except, being the first level, I didn't realize it was a glitch until I reloaded on a hunch.
Agree with the previous comments: my Brutal Mutant pwned everything until Waizer and then he pwned me. A Respect for the mutation points would have rocked. I'm not game expert but when I'm stuck in a battle for like a billion rounds with me wailing on some critter and it just dodging, turning invisible, and re-healing, something seems off: I feel like there should be some sort of "MP" system, ESPECIALLY when it comes to healing powers. (If the only way you're not loosing is by healing yourself every turn you're dragging on an endless fight and it needs to stop.)
The Mutation system reminds me of the World of Darkness RPGs (having Wyrd or Blood Potency or whatever that starts at one and forms the basis of all advanced powers). However, as others have said, having their duration rely on Mutation means that all characters are basically melee based until Mutation hits 3.
I agree with the previous sentiments about unresponsive controls. Sometimes the left or right got "stuck," too, so even though I lifted my finger they still kept charging in that direction. Dunno what could cause that, but it drove me nuts.
