If you'd like to play a solid ranged character: pick snake clan and use pistols. Focus on pistols with as large of a clip as possible. Put almost all your stat points into agility (put a few into vitality/int, none in strength), and focus on maxing out the 2 skills that shoot your entire clip. First skill empties out a clip at one opponent which is good for bosses, other empties it at all enemies around you and can clear out whole towns.
At start, click and drag your tax men to and from the houses for quick $$. The game is fun, but too easy - once you've got a few upgrades, a block of archers with a couple tanks will annihilate anything - not to mention how game-breaking the spells storm and resurrection are
A few potential bugs, otherwise tips for players: 1) easiest way to gain levels is to get the +exp upgrade, play the hardest level you can, and let enemies just win. You get 25% of max exp for that level, very quickly (time it takes 1 wave to run by). 2) terror is insanely good against all bosses, once you get the ability to have it reduce a % of max hp. this works on bosses, even when they're invulnerable!
Kongregate please give us a filter to filter out boring formulaic 'multiplayer' games whose whole purpose is to get us to buy useless items for real cash

Tip: El Muerto is the best, since the +damage really helps on later levels. I'd recommend at beginning dropping 1 or 2 stars into +$$, and if you're having trouble another star or so into health/reload. Then save up for gatling gun by playing easy levels. Once you've got the gatling, you can replay early levels on medium/hard difficulty for unlimited stars and cash. + so others can see
How to quickly be able to beat the stronger bosses:
1. Fight the 'bully' level a bunch of times - fast way to get exp. Hire some guys to speed it up and go until level 5ish
2. Hire 'friends' which are other players online. You want to find people who have purchased premium stuff (you don't have to yourself). They are easiest to identify by their helmet, go to the premium shop to see what the premium helmet looks like. Ideally you can find someone with 400-600 attack.
3. Keep your 'premie' in front, have him do all attacks while your other 2 characters should have highest AP you can find (you should be rogue/assassin). Level getting new premie friends until you can beat Wiegraf - bring healing/resurrect/AP increasers
4. After you beat him, you can hire him. Have him fight the 'divine messenger' which gets you a better character.
5. With divine messenger, last mission is a breeze!
Echoing the problem where maxing out crew makes the end game a horrible grind - I finished the last dungeon, but now I can only get $10k per run-through of that dungeon and I still need roughly $400k to finish the boat. Maybe make a final 'survival' dungeon with magic chests and boss monsters carrying cash?
Easiest way to get a strong party: level up your main hero to about level 10 or so (don't need hero ranks for this, just exp). Then check the 'friends' tab of the tavern, and recruit anybody who's purchased premium items! Easy way to get access to 800 strength in early game.
This game is fun but could use a few small tweaks to become a lot faster. 1. Remove speed as an attribute, and set all characters' speed much higher (might have to make enemy projectiles faster to compensate); 2. Fix the character attacks so it can go in all directions; it currently seems like your attack moves in 32/64 directions and not truly towards the mouse; 3. Make inventory auto-close when you start fighting enemies (currently it stays open and gets in the way).
As others have said, only magic towers should attack ghosts (along with melee to slow them down), magic towers should prioritize ghosts/imps over giants, and archer towers should prioritize imps over giants. Would help a lot with the frustration of 6 ghosts running by a magic tower that's wasting its time attacking a golem!
Please get rid of the achievement that requires us to play each level 3 times ... I'm not going to replay a bunch of levels I've already beaten perfectly
Stun mines and regular upgraded chargers work really well together - it'll keep your hp and money up nicely, and kills all the engineer guns. Add some hulk drones and some blaster guns and you're set.
