upgrades do work you need to click on learn and not the picture. Energy is used for the bigger turrets and upgrades. You cannot upgrade a turret until you buy the upgrade in the up menu in the upper right hand corner. Only suggestion is you find a way to deselect a turret. Click + so everyone can see
