Well that was... uh... something. From an concept standpoint it works pretty well; it's not supposed to make sense, and it definitely doesn't make sense. The art is nice, if a tad bizarre, but again it's intended to be strange. The biggest flaw is the part where it's a game. As a game it gets tedious and frustrating if you're not lucky enough to find the stuff quickly (the last area is a good example of this issue; most everywhere else I figured it out with relative speed but that one took a while for no obvious reason). The game is good, and I'd recommend playing it, but be prepared for some flailing about with the mouse to find the cursor changes in a couple places.
I wound up playing Seasons before I played this, so I'll admit I was expecting the creepy, but it was still well used I think. Though I'm a little confused about the recurring shrimp. Gotta say though that I agree with others about the "Go play our other game so you can get the good ending" is kind of grating. All in all it's well done, and Seasons is pretty dang good too.
This is probably one of the best game of this type that I've seen; and I've seen quite a few. I'll admit, I gave up in the middle of the third level, but everything I saw up till then worked exactly the way it needed to.
There's clearly quite a bit of balancing to be done here. The previous incarnation gave out coins like crazy if you were winning (not so much if you were losing, but eh.).
The problem now is that although it no longer costs coins to play, you also don't earn them.
Which means that aside from your starting pool, it seems that the only way to get coins is to buy them.
Which in turn means that you're stuck with the same limited selection of cards.
I understand it's to earn some money off the game, but it feels incomplete as opposed to simply limited.
I seem to have died while in the final battle, and instead of a game over screen I've been frozen in place. I can ready attacks and pull out the bow, but neither of these do anything due to the character being dead, but I'm not getting a game over screen either.
Excellent game, though as others have said, improvements like more enemy types could be made. Still, I haven't found a Nerdook game yet that I didn't like. Playing this with Blind Guardian's Tanelorn or Sacred Worlds is freaking awesome.
