It's interesting, Quill talks like a cat, acts like a cat, and when you switch to her from another girl, the cat has hearts in its eyes too. I figured it out...the cat is CONTROLLING QUILL!!!

The mystery upgrade causes you to transform into one of the characters from other popular catapaulting games, where you launch animals into the air, when you hit the ground, and instead of just stopping once you hit the ground, you bounce much farther.
