The Black Captain/Dark Zoul/Engineer fight is probably the least fun boss fight I've ever played. Hitting the captain flings you to the other side of the screen with no invincibility frames so that Zoul can instantly pelt you with fireballs. Zoul also has a shield that flings you to the other side of the screen if you touch him when he isn't vulnerable. Having either of these happen when the Engineer is still throwing explosives and you're guaranteed to lose one of your three health. If you hit Zoul before the other two are dead you may as well reset because 4 or more small fireballs is a nightmare. The Zoul fight in and of itself is bad because it's so goddamn long and tedious that when he gets into his second phase (hope to god that he does send out one high fireball and two low in a row) you're probably going to get screwed and have to start the entire irritating fight from the beginning.
Tips for the last arena fight:
1. Engineer's spread explosive drop after getting hit can be completely avoided if you hug either wall.
2. Once the platforms come out in order to hit the Engineer if you attack him while he's about to lob a bomb you'll take damage too. After the Captain's first projectile swing he'll lift the sword back up which does damage to you too so remember to wait a little longer before attacking him.
3. Only ever deal damage to the Engineer while Zoul is firing his dumb laser that nobody gets hit with. Once he tires himself out and his shield is down instead completely ignore him and attack the Captain instead. If you get thrown back into a vulnerable Zoul reset. Ideally you'll have hit the Engineer and the Captain every time he fires his laser so that you can off them both at once when their health is low.
4. Remember to move towards the middle of the screen while jumping/sliding in his second form to give you more space to breathe.
Just so you know, nothing happens when you get all items (just more score) and letters, and you can leave without setting off the core (no difference from regular ending, except no dialogue)
Really wish you could select past armors and weapons and equip them. I'm trying to recreate one of my ocs but the most accurate swords and armor was like 10 upgrades ago. Also the mushroom giving you stat boosts is an annoyance again because if I want to make a character that has all or nothing stats I have to ignore its usefulness (for example, having character with only strength, although the tutorial kind of forces you not to)
However, this game is a fantastic flash game. Being able to recreate certain characters (I made Kakashi from Naruto in this, put all points in dodge and use ninja like abilities and only use the lightning consumable. Use the ninja armor + weapon only, and use the eye scar for customisation :p) and stuff like that makes multiple playthroughs as fun as the first.
It's awesome that you find enough depth to the game to make roleplay run with specific setups :) In the sequel, you'll be free to equip whatever armor part you want, whatever weapon type, etc. And you'll also be able to upgrade your old gear, to make it still relevant to wear. Swords and Souls 2, coming on Steam end of this year!
Alright, it really pisses me off that every time i get a combo when I fall back down I die in an instant death pit that I couldn't possibly know was there.
