The last level breaks hard if you get all of your toxins at once like I did. I assume the trigger to finish the stage involves reaching 100% toxin without being invaded by viruses or something, because I actually couldn't complete the game and had to restart that last level. Just warning anyone who wants to do what I did and just spam toxin once you had enough to win.
For clarification, I'm earning well over 151k drones per second, and each drone is earning 4 meat per second, which ends up with ridiculous numbers of meat growth. Territory growth is similar - even through just the Arachnomorphs, I'm gaining over 15k territory per second. Larva per second is still only two digits large. That's what I meant by "larva seems linear while the others are practically exponential" - larva upgrades take a very long time to earn and don't really pay off nearly as fast as the other upgrades.
I'm not that far in yet, but I'm already noticing a slight problem - I never have enough larva to do what I want. The growth rates on the Drone tree and the territory don't take very long to reach insane numbers thanks to being practically exponential in nature, but the larva is a fairly linear growth overall. I may have just not found it yet, but one major upgrade would be to make something else to spend larva on that produces more larva, like you do with drones for queens.
Here's a tip - invest in mana regen for the early stages of the game (I haven't reached the later parts, as I'm only on floor 40-ish, but it comes in handy up to that point, even against the powerful enemies). It lets you heal yourself quite often, along with being able to stockpile large amounts of crafting materials and hilarious numbers of pickaxes. I may not be there yet, but at the rate I'm gaining pickaxes (and not needing to use them), I'll probably be able to just walk around the final boss and collect the end-game loot without even fighting him.
Also, for the dev, why can't we stack bleed damage? Like, change it so that there's only a % chance of getting it to trigger, but let it stack multiple times so that a weapon with 6 Bleed damage isn't completely outclassed by a weapon with 7 higher base damage than your bleed weapon.
Phenomenal job on the game. My only complaint is the obvious use of a text-to-speech program instead of getting an actual voice actress to read the script and then adding filters to make it sound more digital. Even so, I'm looking forward to part 2.
If you need money in the early stages of the game, here's the best way I found to grind for it. Since your income is heavily influenced by how much HP you have left, simply upgrade your HP as much as you can afford (sell your weapons if you have them, but make sure to keep a Sniper Rifle shot) after mission 7-8. With fully upgraded HP on all your units, you get a hilarious 12,000 per battle if all of them have full HP at the end. The first battle is designed so that you can complete it in one shot with a rocket, but a Sniper Rifle shot grants more money (400 as opposed to 250). A team with full HP completing the first mission with a Sniper Rifle is worth 12,600 credits. Note that you can do the mission once, increase your HP, do it again, increase your HP again, and so on. This "strategy" got me to a fully upgraded party by mission 9 and took less than five minutes.
No other game, anywhere, gives you quite as big of a boost to your score and just generally says "I love you, player" as when you get a purple power RIGHT before a Yellow Madness within the first 30 seconds of a song.
Still didn't find that Fire + Egg = Omelette. I've been waiting for that one. Still a fantastic game, though, if a little difficult to figure out new combinations in the late portions (I had to use the official Walkthrough to find many of them without going insane).
This game has many flaws. The targeting system not allowing you to target the enemy farthest into the map, a slight memory leak, causing the game to slow down slightly as you play, the fast forward button seems to do absolutely nothing, along with several others that I can't remember at the moment. That being said, I still enjoyed most of the time I spent playing this game. 4/5.
OK, after a couple hours of sleep, I came back to this game. Apparently, either something was fixed with that glitch about beating the final boss in under five minutes or I just needed to refresh the page for some reason (I would probably attribute the initial cause of the glitch to the first fight I had against him ending a double kill - we killed each other at the exact same time).
Two things really bug me about this game:
1. You can't disable an upgrade if you want to (for example, I prefer the Grenadier to the Flamethrower, but once you buy the Flamethrower, you're stuck with it for the rest of the game, or disabling allies if you want better ones, like disabling all but Rocketeers).
2. Missions. As others have stated previously, the mission setup is a little awkward, and that's putting it lightly. Also, SEARCH towers and enemy Barracks don't count towards the Tower/Bunker mission and HELICOPTERS don't count towards the VEHICLE mission for some really strange reason.
There's a pretty annoying bug in the final level right now. Apparently, it was working at one point before, since the Walkthrough actually shows it working properly. I defeated the Scourge Templar in about 3 minutes with the right setup and still didn't get the star for beating him in under five minutes (I looked at the clock RIGHT before he spawned and RIGHT as he died - he spawned at 4:25 and died at about 4:28 my time, yet the star didn't appear). This causes frustration for a completionist like myself...
I'll look into this. I know how you feel, I'm a completionist myself. It's definitely been working for most because there are people that have posted about having 100% medal progress and such. I'll have to look into it though to see what might be going wrong.
Actually, let me correct my previous comment. This is on par with the Mardek series in terms of Flash RPG quality. I'm not sure how far I am into chapter 1 as of yet (just recently got the third permanent party member), but I know that I'm going to enjoy playing this one through to the end. There are things that feel reminiscent of Final Fantasy X (Sphere Grid and Level Nodes feel almost IDENTICAL), but that's not a bad thing by any means - I loved FFX. I've got this strange tendency to name my party members after characters from the anime series Fairy Tail, which this also seems quite a bit like in many ways. Again, that's by no means a bad thing - it's tied with Soul Eater for my second favorite anime right now. And again, the music is phenomenal and I would love a soundtrack download option.
Now that I think about it.. yes :D
