Achaea is a great game; I've never played the others, but, particularly if you don't mind reading and can type at a fair clip, it's a great experience.
If you want to continue playing this game, get off Kongregate, and go to the website of the relevant server. They have a client called Nexus which is much better, and more versatile than this, which seems like a bit of a hackjob. And if you get REALLY serious (and use Windows), you might blow 20 bucks on a program called Zmud.
Also, join Shallam.

Been Playing IRE games for years, playing Lusternia for the last two. I'm currently the Guildmaster of the Ninjakari , a Trademaster able to design my own items, and so on. These aren't games for people to just jump into and think things will be handed to you, it's a game to learn and grow. These games are what you make of them. Voted 5/5, and if I could give it a 10, I would.

Never ceases to amuse me. Surely for me, roleplay is worth all the initial difficulties. Stuck on Iron Realms for life!

oh my god.... SO BORING..... i spent the time doing the tutorial just to see if it got any better, but it didnt....
1/5 Text RPG's
F A I L ! ! !

I wonder if you all know that you don't have to take the tutorials? I prefer Lusternia to the others. I don't think the tutorial there is too bad. Give it another chance and skip the tutorials if you have to!

It's not for everyone, so don't give it a bad rating if you don't fall in love with it. Btw, it gets a lot better once you beat the tutorial, regardless of what world you chose. Please don't rate it badly just because you would rather play a different Game. Oh, and to be honest, all us players get a huge fat stack of in-game cash if you rate it well. So regardless of how you feel, don't be a jerk, give it a 5!

Awesome game. Bit of a learning curve if you've never played a text game before, but once you get into the swing of things it quickly becomes addictive.

If you are having problems connecting it may be that port 23 is being blocked on your computer or network. We are working on setting up some alternate ports in the next version.

Not sure what your problem is with it, CaptainCool...are you choosing the "Create New Character" option? I just created one right now to test your problem, and had none myself.
Wonderful game. Great to pop in and pop out. World changes dramatically over the years - both Achaean and Real.

They don't try to suck money out of you. It's not like you can -only- get credits by buying them from their site. It's been said before, the IRE games will, from time to time, hold events with credits as prizes. Aside from that, it's entirely possible to get an enjoyable experience out of the game without paying a cent.

Absolutely my favorite MUD of my entire gaming experience. My current character (Quoren) has been active for nearly a year now, and I have taken him to heights I did not even imagine when I first created him. Your limits are literally your imagination and your will. People have even gotten Gods implemented due to their roleplay efforts! I absolutely recommend it. 5/5 and higher if they had it.

I started playing Achaea in 1999 and quit around 2005-06 in game my character has fought in several wars. Played a paladin. Protector of light and so forth, seen new cities arise new gods show up, gods leave fought a god . twice. got involved in relationships met my current girlfriend from the game (yes girls play here) but in the end eventualy i called it quits. You try living with a evil knight and see how that effects your role play style. Its so intesnse. It really did help me in opening my mind to new possiblities Seeing this game brings back a lot of memories some good, some bad, some that make me want to cringe and some that want to make me go back and play some more. It really isn't for everyone. but if you want a game that every room you enter is detailed to a point. can teach you new possiblieties, new horizions and think dungeons and dragons is just too confusing and too geeky for you... this really is the game for you.

I really want to go on this but when i enter a name, it just says checking name and doesnt continue, even after like, 10 minutes. Any help?

Very immersive, and I agree with Keiana. You're not limited by somebody's view of the world. The only thing you're limited by is your imagination. This game is very newbie friendly, so that's yet another reason for a 5/5. As Keiana said, there are no graphics, sure, but I think the gameplay totally makes up for it.

Hi all! I've been playing Achaea for 2 years now, and I still love it. Sure, there are no graphics, and yeah, it's a pretty expansive world to grasp but you either love it or you don't. I enjoy the fact that I am not constrained by someone else's idea of how the world should look or work. I love the depth of creativity and freedom of expression that we have - you can be anything you want! Your imagination gets to do it's own thing while your language skills improve as you learn to express yourself and have fun in a text-based fantasy universe. Give it a try, but give it a little patience. It takes a little while to really see all that the world has to offer. Iron Realms, specifically Achaea, gets an automatic 5/5 from me!

As Sagron said, MUDs are NOT for everyone. I've been playing Imperian about five years now, I played Aetolia for about a year and I've been on Lusternia on and off for about a year- I don't figure I need to say which is my favorite. They all have their own ups and downs. I personally love the PK of Imperian. It's high speed, intense, and among the actual combatants you never know who's going to win until the fight actually ends. I'm still absolutely addicted to IRE MUDs and expect to be for years to come.
Signed,
Lalaith, from Imperian.

Quite immersive experience once you get the hang of it. Rather lot to learn at the beginning but with a community more then willing to lend a hand.
You can become whatever you wish to be. Merchant, Mercenary, City Leader, Lowly thief, Cult leader, Good, Evil, Tree hugger, ruthless brute, etc. The list is only limited by your own imagination.

In 2004, my first try at Iron Realms Achaea was the most confusing time in all of my gaming experience. However, with my return as Samakhulis in 2007, through time and practice this game has proven itself to be THE MOST in depth and exciting game ever for me. Just the history alone draws one into the story line. The command-line interface is a bit difficult to navigate and figure out, but with time, proficiency in operating the game becomes super! Awesome newbie friendly with easy, yet informational intro course to get you started. 6/5 stars for the greatest MUD on earth!
