OK OK, i MANAGE TO GET A FIRE SWORD OR INFERNO SWORD, A WIZARD'S ROBE AND ONE AXE CALLED STORM CHOPPER NOW. THIS ITENS ARE RARE?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Thx for the advice @TakashiKurorai! I'll try that. I also find Necro the hardest. Particularly when you run out of potions. He's all about dropping poison and running, which requires use of the EXPLOIT when you are dropped into a dungeon surrounded by enemies.

RNG is heartbreaking sometimes. getting to floor 15 and having it be a giant icy level with no campfire and swarms of ice towers, wolves, and elite polar bears is unfortunate
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@bliznitch For what it's worth, I actually have the hardest time playing as either Necro or Ranger, despite what other players tell me about Necro being incredibly easy. So maybe it has to do with playstyle?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@bliznitch I find the Boots of Speed are actually almost never useful; they decrease HP, and as such straight armor or stealth units are better. The real trick, with a Rogue, is to try and fight as few enemies at a time as you can. If you can kite them into a hallway where they can't move, do it. If you can kite them into water, do it. ONE enemy is easy to keep putting to sleep--and sneak attack actually makes buffing melee slightly less necessary. Also, if you come across several monsters that don't yet see you, put a few to sleep and attack the last one, weakest first. However.... if you REALLY have trouble..... remember that [EXPLOIT!] Quitting and reloading, or changing floors and then changing back, resets what monsters are aware of you. Use that to your advantage.

TakashiKurorai, how does that build help you with the Rogue? I maxed out Stealth, and as soon as I kill one enemy, all the other enemies see me and start attacking. Unless I have the boots or ring of speed, my rogue is toast after the first attack.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@Littleheran: I've a very different strategy when playing Rogue, but I finish around the same time you do. The very first two points I get go into Melee and Focus--so I hit the 5-damage breakpoint to oneshot rats and so my focus is 4 and energy shrooms don't waste any FP. Then I build stealth to 20, and then I start building melee. I also explore every map as much as I can, killing where I find enemies--and still finish around 35 mins each time. The two most useful Rogue abilities are hands-down Keen Hearing and Dungeon Sense (I usually get Keen Hearing first). Aside from that, I pick up the Warrior book (and Longsword) if at all possible (for weapon shield and shroomology)--but if not, I tend to kite enemies into water or something. Last rogue run finished at 36:12, level 15.

Of all games launched on Kongregate last year, I spent most time on this one. Sometimes I raged quit, sometimes I had an easy road to the end (depending of what books I picked up). So, in my opinion, this was the #1 Kongregate game in 2017.

OK Littleheran, after playing with the rogue a few times, I agree with you. The stealth stat is absolutely useless. The critical hit ability is only useful if paired with the storm shockwave skill. The rogue is really only good for speedruns.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
First, you should allocate the points into melee and vitality instead, in fact four point in stealth stat is already ideal. Second, you should farm the first four floors to grab dungeon sense asap. Third, you only use sleeping darts on enemies that are unaware (with a question mark on his head). Fourth, you should charge straight to the exit from floor 9 onward, and don't try to grab chest if they are too far away from the critical path. Usually you reach the bottom at level 9-10 and use about 32-35 minutes. You are not playing the class optimally if you try to engage everything, although I just test it today that you can still be aggressive and kill most mob if you are careful enough but it took me two hours doing each run.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I disagree with the notion that rogue is the weakest class because the reality is entirely opposite. You can consistently beat the game under 35 minutes with rogue while other class has much higher uncertainty. What's actually weak is the "stealth" stat. A lot of people don't understand the strength of dungeon sense and end up picking other weak talent also adds to the problem. I am going to post a short guide here for the class.

Interesting how, in a game titled "Rogue Fable," the Rogue is the WORST character. Even with 25 sneak, advanced enemies detect me, even as I fill them with sleep darts and use the evade skill. Really, the only useful thing that the Rogue does is detect enemies.

I didn't know until the game ended that the mission was to find the holy grail. You'd think that would be in a brief intro...

I'm still encountering the occasional bug where the merchant won't open his window; in fact, it happened just once in the middle of talking to him; he wouldn't register any purchases. It's not consistent, and it's not predictable. ...also, Ice Mage when?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Btw for people who often starve to death, a meat is guaranteed to appear at floor 4,8,12 while a merchant is guaranteed to appear in all later zones. The rogue class is indeed the most versatile class for speedrunner since he got dungeon sense which is arguably the strongest talent in game. You should level your character to level 3 and grab it before descending to the second zone of the game.

The game is actually not so difficult and complicated compared to most of the old school rogue-like. In fact this is the second game I would introduce to my friend who want to taste the rogue-like genre, after they have beaten the enchanted cave 2 in a single run. I like how this game handles the class. However I found some of the terrain not so funny to navigate, especially the ice caves which has the annoying cold mechanic. I also dislike the randomness in level 5-12. Overall 4/5 seems to be a fitting score.

I hate to love this game. I love to hate this game. I must press new game. I MUST PRESS NEW GAME. I MUST PRESS NEW GAME.

This game does a great job of conveying how different adventuring playstyles work. The hyper-offense of the Barbarian plays very differently than the calculated outranging of the Ranger or the sneaky hit-and-run, go-up-and-down-stairs of the Rogue.

Every once in a while when the game is playing I experience severe lag. The game goes really slow and my computer is burning up half it's resources (only 1 tab open). Probably the worst part about this is I'll move 2 tiles per 1 minute of timer going by. Getting the 45 or 60 minute achievement is impossible with all this lag. Do I have a software (flash) problem? Or is it the actual coding of the game that is causing this. It seems like a pixel game should experience no lag..

GRRRRAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!! I was doing ridiculously well!!! I managed to get triple enchantment scrolls from one of those wishing wells and got it all on my staff, plus I had maxed out my fire attunment, plus I had a level two fire ring then I got teleported in the middle of this room filled with 8 bats and 2 golems and I couldnt manuver around them, they cornered me and killed me!

OK, I finally won the game, but I have to admit it was fairly cheaty. I found a ring of lifesaving, and every time I used it, I immediately closed the window. It started me back at the last floor I'd left, so I was able to do the last few levels repeatedly until I got them right. Next: to do it again without cheating.

As of today, I've begun experiencing a problem where the game loads, I choose a new character or hit Continue Save, and... then I get a blank screen and it never progresses. Anyone else encountering this?

found the gauntlet again another good game this time i tried out archer class
max archery then max vitality and warrior skills and some foccus for tanky 100%ep archer

Welp I'm done with this game. After countless attempts I finally reached the 16th floor. I killed an enemy blocking my way to the treasure and the game instantly froze.

@PuzzleMage it's intentional, they're like, "elite" monsters. they're super dangerous when it's the maggots that spawn from the corpses.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Occasionally I run into a monster that moves twice as fast as others of its kind. Is this expected variation or a bug?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
And I thought DCSS had ridiculous difficulty spiking. I also thought all the poison gas and all the maggots from those decaying corpses in the sewer level gave me enough cancer. Then I experienced the ice caverns and those STUPID GODDAMNED CRYSTAL BALLS, and then my entire body was littered with tumors. God bless the Necromancy book, the life drain bolt and the cannibalism skills are practically a must-have.

i really appreciate how "roguelike" this is, plus lots of new fun twists. i got the hard badge with the Warrior first (Shrooms, Weapon Shield) plus Rogue (sneak attack), and Fire Mage (Fireball) talents.

Caution: Altar of Trog (critical hits when under 1/3 of HP) does not seem to work with Inferno Sword! My current HPs are 22/78, and I score crits with my normal sword, but not with Inferno Sword. I switched several times between both weapons.

@tf2spyspysap The rouge isn't that bad. The rouge skill tree is hard to sue by itself, but it combines well with the others, particularly the warrior and the barbarian. Less so with the mages, but it can still work.
the ranger on the other hand, is pure trash. The ranger skills do not combine well with anything, and you are also beholden to rinding extra ranged ammo. You can try to play the ranger as a ranged character, but it's hard. You can also try to use it as a melee character, but then you need another skill book.

Necromancer is the most viable to get the badge. I was lucky and ended up with 20 fortitude, 20 necromancy and found every book. Very high skill for lvl 18. Toughness is a nice addition and the one that boosts defense. Then, the storm mage spell that freezes everyone for 5 turns. Poison cloud is perfect for nests ans towers. And leeching is of course great. And playing mage avoids the red mushrooms...
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I've tried playing this game three or four times and it has locked up every time. It seems that you can often cause the game to freeze if you're a fire mage and shoot a fire ball then click anywhere else before the fireball hits its target and/or before whatever you've shot finishes exploding.

Ooh! A red mushroom! It's probably an item that can heal--
"Fire Mushroom - Dangerous mushrooms which explode with a burst of fire when stepped on."
Whoops

Just the Rogue left to make it to the trophy. I have a few gripes about him though. For funsies I got my Rogue to 23 Stealth early on (fluked out by finding 15 skill points on level 2-3 + a robe), and average Melee. Even with maxed Stealth, monsters with low spot checks (Stone Golem 6%) instantly saw me (Except imps (5%) they're happy enough to ignore me). Teleporting into a room appears to be 100% noticing + death. I'm at the point where I can't use the Rogue as a Rogue and am instead relying on treasure drops to give me wizardry items.
