Mercenary ships that can be hired come from independent outposts, like raiders and etc. They only cost credits to hire and have experience already with combat. They are much stronger than fighters cause they simply have experience with tons of weapons and shields. In order to hire and get the planets from them. You need to send a diplomacy ship to that certain independant ship. Therefore you can start hiring tougher mercenaries with beefed up corvettes.

Please, add minimum amount of resources to keep before starting auto-building. This will allow to keep auto-build ongoing and still have some buffer resources for building ships or some other urgent measures (like low-lvl tech research)

(only for custom map) this game would be epic if there were other factions and we all started out neutral and we could set up trade ports on planets and overtime we would Allie and some would declare war on me it would be epic!

Would be good if a held mouse click starts adding/removing ships from the fleet. Can be quite a tedious process trying to launch only 50 frigates to supply front line, without launching 150 other ships as well :D

I encountered similar problems on Hostile Rocks on Hard difficulty, just like HekiShavik. Money went to 0, effectively unlimited, about the same time, I also start seeing the random lost battles on a far away uncolonized planet I've never sent ships to. It has both red/blue fleet icons around the planet during the battle on the occasion I happened to view the area when it happened.

It's amazing how you're constantly updating the game. I'm having abit of a pickle here, I just started on the first map and for some reason my fleet circle button doesn't show even though I've constructed many ships. It worked fine the first time but after a restart, it didn't work. Am I doing something wrong?

There were some strange things happening on Hostile Rocks and Enemey Empire. 1: Money went 0 and thus unlimited. 2: Random battle lost events on enemy planets which set pop to 1 and the planet became uncontrolled. Any enemy fleet was still there. AI became more passive after that. Also it never ever made a huge fleet. 3: (all maps) Suggestions: 1: Fleet size cap (or other means to bring a little more life to the field). Making one 200 ship fleet will conquer anything. 2.1: Ability to set transfer treshold to 1 ship so I don't accidently only queue 24 ships on a support-planet and they just sit there instead of planetjumping to my frontlines. 2.2: % (or slider) transfers so I can have transfers to ie. three planets, with 10% to one, 30% to another and 60% to the third. 3: Auto ship construction. 4: Bigger field of vision: I always have the planet bar open which makes me feel limited with the imo small viewport. 5: Increase font size in menus slightly.

6.1: More than one opponent, which may war on eachother. Opens up for alliances and trade. 6.2: Bigger maps with more planets. 7: Colony ships should carry more than 1 person. 10 maybe? I colonized a hazardous planet just to loose it two seconds later because that one guy drowned in the ocean. Also on friendlier planets one person is fine to incease pop with.. 8: As with ships, auto transfer of resources with available freighter, which returns to origin planet after delivery for the next load. 9: Mineable fields (asteroids and dust clouds, for example). Mining-vessel goes out to mine, comes back with load to origin planet. 10: Planet independant research as an option on the research panel, the planet with most res is picked to host the research if enabled, instead of selected. Finally I'm sorry there aren't linebreaks in this.. :>

theres a bug where after some time passed playing credits constantly showing 0 but they are accumulating whatsoever. Overall this is only a minor bug. GG

bug: when i take out the population of a planet with a fleet that has a colony the planet will not be conquered until i leave and come back.

About the saves--I play lots of games on Kong and this is the only one where the save function does not work. At the minimum you could explain how to change comp setting to fix this if you suggest it is at our end.
it is possible that my many updates a day is flushing the saves for some people. im sorry for the hassle. i will implement a text code save that you can use as a backup while i continue to work out the kinks.

fleets disappear after winning a battle.... only started noticing it when I had built lots of destroyers....

Hit a glitch where my fleets disappeared after every battle. I would win, but my fleet would be gone. Made it impossible to finish the level. (Level 3) Otherwise, I enjoyed the game...but that kind of glitch can be a serious buzz kill.

huh.......there goes my save file O.o which is odd because none of the saves in my other games are effected so this is exclusive to starship commander...im guessing a big shiny new recent upgrade?

not sure whay your save game isn't. people who had issues in the past emailed me saying it was on their end, and had to do with flash saving shared local objects.

Though I'm Experiencing a very annoying bug with the return fleet button some times i send them off by accident and loose a whole planet waiting for them to return. Please fix the return to planet button for the fleets thank you awesome game.
PS could you add a export saved file button? I'd love to play this offline too.

I love it, and I think it's highly admirable the amount of time the author takes to read and respond to the gamers ideas and feedback. You get 5 stars just for that, but awesome game none the less! Favorited, and I'll be keeping an eye out for upcoming titles by the author. Thanks man.

Resources for Researches are tied to planet, but I can't Allow/disallow auto-research on per-planet basis. That means that I can' make one planet as research and another -- as production. Same goes for exact research specification. This made researches worse than they were before.

I would like to thank you for this great game and i really would like to keep enjoying it except that my games don't seem to be saving and having to go through the first couple systems every time is .. exhausting. any help would be appreciated. ( and yes i have click on the save button)

My only advice so far is that Auto Persist should be planet independent. For instance, I want 2 planets to be researchers only, but the planet that I use for ship production has auto persist for the research tab as well.

its an awesome game, but your updating the fun out of it, i also personally like the idea of the technology not being global, has anyone heard of spherical regression? how does it make more sense that even on a planet really really far away from your nations center, everything is still in tip top shape and at max tech, in space, that wouldnt happen, the further out you go, the longer it takes to get there, thus supplies take forever, so repairs on higher tech machines wouldnt come for a while, picture the spread of machines and repairs for said machines and materials, and fuels, do you really think everyone would have everything still as you spread out? just food for thought

okay, my game is really bugged. whenever i win a battle, i still lose the whole fleet, i just had a fleet of over fifty strength go up against some scouts at like twenty, and when i won, there wasn't any fleet left, and its happened before, also, the u turns are bugged, when i click the button, my fleet appears at its originally intended planet, with the option the click the u turn button still, and when i do, my fleet goes back to where it was in space on its way to that planet again. personally, i liked this game way better before all the updates, now i cant play on all the planets, and i keep losing my save data

I throughly enjoy this game. The combat feels very detached though, and as pointed out, it seems that a slew of tiny ships can easily defeat a large ship. Please update with ability to scroll wheel rather than forced to use scroll bar. The game window itself would also benefit from being larger.

I wish I had the ability to turn ships around, not sure how to do that yet. And there was a glitch in the second mission, where I had one fleet on my planet, sent a second fleet there as an enemy fleet came. Defeated the enemy fleet with my first one, but the enemy icon was still there. Left, and the enemy fleet suddenly revived and attacked my planet.

Does one frigate really load goods at the same rate as 100?
I want to strip planets clean in seconds with a massive looting fleet.
