This is a copy of defender, a really old tower defence game…"
It's not a copy, but a sequel made by the SAME PERSON. I somehow doubt he would copy himself :P

Someone please rewrite the game description. That first sentence isn't even a... well, a sentence. "Deep strategy and involving depth, deceptively simple to play, yet so many avenues and strategies to master." ??? Deep strategy and involving depth?? What the hell does that even mean?

No, it is not a copy of Defender. Things that are copies are almost always exactly the same. Protector has more levels, units, and the skill-point system.

Truthfully,I don't get why people complain about not being able to sell the units. You need to plan ahead and that's what makes it fun.I played this for hours and I still couldn't beat the first hard map.

Yes, it is a room chat promoting game, because if you read all informations you've got, and the game gives you all the resources you need, you can build up a strategy and you've got no problems. You can sit back, watch the fight, chat a bit with the kongregatians and maybe, occasionally, level up your troops. Which brings us to the troops. I loved Defender ( the prequel ). At its time it was a simple, fun, isometric tower-defense. Protector brings a variety or troops that build a great system on which the gameplay is constructed. That is one thing that always works in games and always will be fun - fire, cold, energy, sword and shield...but then again, Defender was a short and challenging game. Protector is long, terribly complex and it's more newbie friendly. The tools that you have can lower the difficulty level of the game: the bar that shows wave weakness and strength, re-arranging the XP points, giving you advantages in each fight. The greatest part of the game is the soundtrack.

You get more damage per gold spent by not upgrading, and instead just buying many weak units. It's totally pointless to advance your units. It's beyond pointless, it's harmful.
Badly thought out design. They took a good idea and ruined it.

I tested the archer on the easy marathon, i expected flying units to be killed in 2 or 3 hits, the archer is a big dissapointment it should be only worth 125 gold max

this is a great game. very reminiscent of the original defender. the only prob is that the advanced units are too pricy. otherwise a great game!

Its a pretty good game but there needs to be a disable troop button or something. It gets very annoying when things absorb damage.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Oh yes, @Hitmytotem, poison is uber powerful since it can kill enemies and take down their health extremely fast. Cold is used to slow down enemies so they don't rush through leaving your mages/dexters hitting the enemy only once.

Finally got all the badges. Very nice game, much better than Defender.
The game play would be extraordinarily better if it had the following improvements: 1. Cheaper advanced units , the price of the advanced units compared to their power is not worth it.
2. A sell feature, though some people say not to add one they probably haven't finished the entire game. It gets incredibly annoying when you fight off a wave for fire absorbing guys that are weak to ice and then a wave of ice absorbing guys come that are weak to fire.
3. A game speed toggle, on marathons or such where you're waiting for waves to come, you can waste about an hour in playing the whole game by waiting.
Other than these major points, this game is unbelievably addicting and has it's place in the top 3 games on Kongregate. 5/5

The special units are necessary at times as you run out of room to place units, but yeah, generally they're not worth it.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The special on fire, though, is horrendously weak, while poison is incredibly powerful, and cold is almost mandatory against some enemy types.

awesome game i got 7 maps completed so far (get the teacher upgrades your guys level up so fast that you get poor from it)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Advanced units are not worth it. At best, they cost 10 times more than a normal guy, and they do maybe 3-6 times damage than normal guys. and upgrades are too expensive. the 4th or so up costs half as much as a new hero, for like 10% boost.
the last level is beatable without heros, easier than if you tried to use them. with me, less than 4 guys made it past the first roundabout, and they didnt get much further

this game is good but there needs to be a speed up button for the slow enemies and if u wanted add a few more types of men to choose from
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
One thing that is kind of dumb... pretty much everything is weak to fire. Well, at least 75% of the mobs in each map are.
Poison and cold are essentially worthless.

This is a real addictive game. I just cannot stop until I beat the 23 levels.
This game has HUGE potential and I could think of tons of features one could include in feature versions.
I really love this game.

This is a really fun game I just couldn't stop playing it until I beat all 23 levels. I like the gameplay, the different characters with their strengths and weakness, and skill points that you earn and can move around between skills based on which level you were going to play. This game could be better by evening out the importance of the characters. It seemed to me like the Red Mage was usually the most valuable. I also was able to get through most levels without using the advanced units and it would have been cool if they would have been a more necessary part of the game. If there were even more levels I’m sure I would keep playing this game but otherwise I probably won’t. Overall, this is a great game. 5/5

Good idea, but way to slow. There needs to be a speed up button that will let a level finish once you've done your power ups. Without it, this is a snoozer.

It's made by the same guy who did Defender, and I loved Defender. I also like the updates and the skill-set thing. A shame that the map editor isn't included though.
Btw Chiv Dexer = Paladin which anyone who played Ultima Online would know :)

Great game. My only problem is that poison can kill an enemy, when most TDs can only bring them to 1HP. A team of poison mages makes it easy.
