Returning to this game after many years, I think I finally understand it now. The main character suppressed an integral part of herself, and kept it hidden, so hidden that it might as well be on the far side of the moon (metaphorically speaking). And so she goes to the far side of the moon, finds it again, and brings it back to earth.

Me playing this as a kid/young teen: Haha, what a neat game! Is that like his dead wife or something, idk but cool :)
Me now, as a trans adult: Oh. Oooooooh. I feel you.

i was drawn in by the description because i love finding games i can find some of myself in, and i am absolutely floored by how amazing this was!! it takes so much to create a full GAME of such a personal topic and it turned out amazing <3

4 years after my first time playing it, still don't understand it fully and still feel like it's one of the most touching games I've ever played.

i can't believe how far i've looked through the comments to not find one decent explanation of this already. the tree floating in space with the dark figure on it is depression/the mind. look how the roots on the ground and the shape of the ground below the tree make it look kinda like a brain.

ugh all there comments are stupid. maybe it's the perspective i have, or maybe i just have a brain, but this is clear as day about transgenderism to me. I'm even able to see little references to transition in the word choice and the astronaut parts. i feel like even the vast majority of people should have been able to understand the scene where the guy becomes the girl, but idk wth you other people think. nice use of symbolism and music, but i have to admit, even in 2016, this game is notably laggy. the ending is beautifully done and makes me tear up just a bit as a trans person.

*Minor SPOILER*
I gathered all the five components, then landed, but the game frozen with a running timer,Is that a BUG?

I can't help but make a comment of appreciation about this game. Even though I don't necessarily grasp all the meanings behind the storyline, the imagery and the emotions hit me and flood me completely. Some elements really make me wonder "What was the artist thinking here?", an example being the floating tree, but these elements really contribute to make the experience priceless and it's like they can force an expressive crack open in my head.
I didn't mean to be obscure with my comment -sorry about that!- I just can't find better words to describe in what way I like this game ♥

Apparently the lander is a red herring. Once you get to the moon, you need to hit space to talk to an astronaut. After that it was smooth sailing. A rather... odd ending, to say the least.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
OK, I made it to the lander, it says that's my goal. Space, C and the arrow keys do nothing to interact with it and if I walk or fly away, it points me right back there and there's no tips from the game. Now what?

Something needs to be understood by people who want to make this type of game; using fancy, "poetry sounding" language doesn't make your game deep or artistic. What was the message here? I thought there would be some cool ideas presented when the tree was talking about things being pointless but that never happened. I was bored for most of this game. I was bored moving because it's too slow. I was bored flying because it's too slow and was more like swimming. While I liked the gradual transition from the man into the woman (though I don't know what that's all about), I was bored because of the aforementioned attempt at using "artsy" language and it took too long. The music was good but it's too short of a loop. I did like how the moon slowly came into view as the woman walks at the end.

my interpretation is the man lost someone who he felt incredibly close to, and tried to get her back no matter what, a shown through the moon part. his wife was an astronaut who died on the moon due to the events of the game. this I the man dreaming that he saved her, but in the end, he died, so she threw herself off the building.

If anything, this game is an interesting example of how trans people can relate their gender dysphoria to different, seemingly unrelated objects or concepts. The moon, travelling through space, etc.

This is the most beautiful games I have ever played in my life. The message it sends hits home, and I think that this game is a perfect representation of what a transgender person feels like before changing and after changing.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I'm not sure if I should explain, but here it goes.
It's a history about a transgender. I think it's a girl-born boy who hasn't made the transition yet at the beginning.
When we look at the mirror, we see a female reflection. After we give the mirror shard, she says "when you are ready come talk to me", and fades away.
Then we go flying around the vaccuum, the nothing, collecting pieces of ourselves to make the change available.
The girl in the tree might be a old girlfriend that don't accept our transexuality, we love her but she doesn't love the real us.
The girl in the moon is the image we idealize to turn. She was lost in the moon, the moon representing some kind of veil.
At the end the moon is destroyed, there is no hidding anymore. We go back to earth as a girl. The change is complete, she is finally free, that's why she closes her eyes, it's pleasure. It's not depressing, it's beautiful.
