I have seen millions of games like this, but this one is the most unique. The upgrades, and the bonuses provided by cells really make it stand out in first place.

In case no one noticed, the leeB gene protein (+1 in Spd/Str/Def) which has the description "The leeB gene protein gives the virus a strange boost in martial arts" is a spoof of Bruce Lee :p

Perhaps it WAS a bit easy when I realized that when I cranked my Str/Def/Rep stats as high as possible, my virus was a completely unstoppable engine of destruction, but this remains the only game of it's type that I've ever actually ENJOYED playing, perhaps specifically because of that reason- or, perhaps better stated, you actually provide the player with the means to forge their own fighting chance based on all the sequences you get as you play, rather than make them grind for stats, jump through hoops to upgrade, or worst yet, force them to figure out the exact moves and timing required on every map to have a CHANCE to win, which in my experience does nothing but either make me close the game or go looking for a walkthrough.
You've avoided all the pitfalls common to this type of game and I commend you for it.

so, i realized something. When you complete the last mission you get a gene sequence called "jacK" which gives +2 to everything, and minuses nothing. then i closed the window, went along my day, came back, played the last level for kicks and got another copy of "jacK". i was intrigued. i refreshed the window, completed the last level and got it again. do this five times and you have maxed out every stat.

there is a 3rd version of this game out on armor games... its called phage wars live... it has no promotion so the game is dead :(

I absolutely love this game! This would be inredible as a multiplayer though. Imagine PvP against other pathogens, obtaining more (DNA levels? The things you lodge new sequences on) as you level up, a longer story mode for those who prefer PvE, the ability to trade codes to other players, and of course Kred functionality (I hate them, but their presence would make Kongregate more likely to host the game. I guess they'd let you buy special sequences or advanced customization for your pathogen?). That would be awesome.

Pretty fun, but becomes too chaotic. There's really not much strategy to this, since everything happens so fast. You win most levels really easy by just trying to conquer as many free cells as possible, then you just target/overrun the enemy cells.

Searching an optimal sequence for a given set of characteristics (say, Strength and Speed) is a constrained linear bin packing problem. So it's solvable, but it's NP-hard. Which makes optimizing your sequence either a mater of feeling or of luck. Clever, or annoying ? Can't say.
Nonetheless, I too figured out that REP/STR/DEF is unbeatable. Having two cells means creating units at twice the REP rate, so the more cells you conquer, the (way, way) more REP comes in handy, without you having to do anything.
To conquer cells, you need STR or SPE (or AGI). It just so happens that given the gene pool it's easier to combine STR with the rest. Then you want to keep your cells to REP, so you get DEF.
Excellent game, but a lot easier than the first if I remember correctly. Phage Wars 3 will need to bring on challenge !

Having created a supervirus, you use it to destroy the entire world, except for Madagascar, which closed its shipyards before the outbreak even started.

It would be nice to have a white border around the text and the numbers during battles, because lots of times the numbers blend into the background and I can't read them.

i enjoy the quick hands method, take rep. and speed and then devide your lil guys in as many major points as posiable with the high speed they can get their first and with high rep their numbers grow insanely fast, specially with max rep and a x 2 growth cell endless armies to die for me mwhahaha. good game, look forward to more.

Did anyone bother to notice the LeeB Gene Protein said "Gives your virus a strange boost in martial arts"? And if the gene is in Last First format, then it translates into Lee Bruce. XD

Congratulations! You have created a virus that can easily destroy all of humanity! We award you a picture of a medal for your hard work! This is totally gonna help us advance genetics and not, y'know, start a Pandemic and try to destroy all of humanity or anything, See ya, we now must go to the lair- Uh, I mean lab. Yes, we are off to the lab. A word of advice: you might wanna move to Madagascar. Soon. Why? You'll see.

Once you beat the game, beat the last level again (Where you start as the big defense one) and you get the Jack gene (+2 to all stats)...sequence that and restart the game, beat the last level twice again and you get another lol.

This is exactly like the Nano War games...but better. I enjoy the NW series, but, this game has what that one needed, the ability to upgrade. It adds such depth to this genre. The only problem with this one is, Strength, Defense and Reproduction are vital, but Speed and Agility are useless compared to the other three. But unless you read the comments, you have no way of knowing that. I usually don't read comments until I've been playing awhile, so I learned the hard way that a Str/D/R combo will get you through, but Spe/A, won't do much of anything. Other than that, great game. I really love the whole design and the feel of it being a real research lab/computer. Also love the end. Bonel obviously an anagram of Nobel...yet the heading for the e-mail says Nobel Prize. Mistake?

Once the special cells come into play, go for those immediately, once you get all of them, you have pretty much won already
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Maxed strength and reproduction. Switched between originally having some defense to some speed. But never went after agility. As long as you have strength and reproduction maxed, then go after the advanced cells you're set. Especially 2x reproduction
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Definitely fun, my only complaint is that the AI isn't much of a challenge. It doesn't seem smart enough to pick tactically important cells over others, such as cells with reproduction boosts, etc. Usually it's happy to take other random cells and let you have the good ones, which makes it very easy to beat once those cells are in play.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Easy/fun game, I thought the upgrades were automatically strapped on, so i didn't have any till 50%ish...then i just stacked str/def/rep for an even easier win....NEEDS HARDER LEVELS OR DIFFERENT DIFFICULTIES + TO GET THIS NOTICED!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Pro Tip: If you see a x2 reproductive cell, aim for that first. It'll be easiest to defend and give you an advantage over species without them (I'm talking about a gaming winning advantage).
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I was about to give a positive comment on the difficulty... but then I discovered I have to use the traits I obtain. I thought they were automatically applied kek.

This game was so much fun. I was seriously disappointed when I came to the end! More? Pwetty Pwease with a genetically engineered cherry on top. :D
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Honestly this game is more engaging if you try to beat it without upgrading your virus at all! It's possible, and makes this game actually difficult. Yeah it's fun having a virus with maxed out reproduction, strength, and defense, but I for one enjoy the challenge of beating down opponents though sheer strategy.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I used strength/reproduction with a side of speed/defense. The game becomes EASIER as you progress. You don't need agility or giant genes that don't increase your total stats.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
my only problem with this game...is that u can't do my fravorate thing u can normally do on thes games when ure opponent got 1 place left u send every possible place to attack him at once
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It doesn't really matter what you do with your genome, as long as you're just a little fast with the mouse the "enemy" just can't keep up.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@Tomatoman The first 5 seconds mater most. Just capture as many nodes as fast as possible since taking nuetral nodes doesn't cost anything. Having a good mouse helps here.

jack of all trades syndrome = L1: jacK; L2: leeB, lovE, defE; L3: cooK, fasT; L4: incR, speD; L5: xdyA, aglE; L6: strH, desT, musL, agiY, repN, (optional mage, yell); L7: aflP, athL. made it while trying to gain max net stats, gives +6 all

Full Speed, Strength and Reproduction with 750 to spare (in this order): hypR, runR, theF, jacK, leeB, homE, cooK, repN, micE, athL, aflP

This is pretty easy, I just focused on reproduction and tried to balance out other stats (ended with max reproduction and lots of agility) I beat the game like nothing, just move your cells fast and try to control most of the cells, then you win
