You don't want to make the game too easy, but at the moment it gets frustrating... How about a compromise: after you've selected the first element, grey out elements which you've already tried to combine it with. Blindly trying everything still takes forever, but at least you don't keep trying the same combinations over and over again. (Oh, and after a successful reaction, please remember which groups I was working with; having to find and reselect them every single time gets boring rather quickly.)

This is a great game, but can you make it that it says like "you already did that" so I don't keep trying the same combination again and again.
