Under rating threshold (show) That game...no, that story... was absolutely the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I've never cried so much after playing a game. Thank you, BlackOliveGames, for making this beautiful game. Even as I'm typing this comment, I'm still crying from how beautiful the game was!

Under rating threshold (show) Hmmm... An evil "Wizzard"? But.... Rincewind's not evil... He's too cowardly to be evil!

Developer response from BlackOliveGames

Therefore, it is not Rincewind. It merely looks like him; like an homage.

Under rating threshold (show) Thank you very much for the game! Like it a lot) Its so different from others Ive played – maybe because of the visual component, that is more like my childish attempts to draw comics, which brought me back to a state of childhood, and made me feel happy and so peaceful) maybe its because of the philosophy of the game – all these thoughts came in handy as this is exactly what I’m thinking about now! One can pull the story apart on quotes ;) And of course first when I saw The Book – ingeniously! Thanks for a lot of referancies – that was funny)))) Also for atmospheric music … mrrr) And you know it is really helpful to talk to your “personal norman” sometimes. Thanks a lot again, guys!!!

Under rating threshold (show) I meant to add, I *really* like the "smart book" concept instead of a walkthrough. It's ingenious how at every point, you offer general but relevant hints that become more specific if the user needs additional help. Very smart interface.

Developer response from BlackOliveGames

Thanks. You're the first one who ever mentioned the user interface, but it was one of the things I was very proud of.

Under rating threshold (show) Setting aside drugs, this game is so so so beautiful. The music is just so good.I am just appalled by the ratings...This has got to be one of the most beautiful game ever, read all the dialogue to believe it !

+ - !

(9)

Developer response from BlackOliveGames

Hey, thanks! The ratings aren't THAT bad (though I would have preferred them in the low 4's at least ;), considering everything. The artwork may off-put some people (personally, I think it's just right, exactly as I've drawn it) and the huge amount of dialogue may dissuade others. And it's an atypical Flash game; it resembles 'real' adventure games more that the usual Flash adventure game. But mostly, those who give the game a chance like it. We'll see how people react to my new game, which is just around the corner. It's going to be quite different.

Under rating threshold (show) The Rincewind reference was obvious and unmissable. I am so proud of having found the Peter Pan / Captain Hook one! :) -- you must have more of them hidden there, methinks.

+ - !

(3)

Developer response from BlackOliveGames

a dozen, at least ;) There's a Bugs Bunny reference, two Wheel of Time's, two Badger song's, a Dragonball reference, some Beavis and butthead, the three blind mice (I thought this was obvious), a Dylan Dog reference (MEGA OBVIOUS to people who know who that is) and others. I forget already.

Under rating threshold (show) This is an awesome game... in all senses of the word. The story is brilliantly told (I have the PDF and intend to read it) and the music and graphics suit it beautifully. I can't say I entirely saw the main charaters point of view but maybe that is because I have already been on his journey... having said that I was still gripped by the story and it brought a number of tears to my eye. The intricacy and attention to detail, the clear backstories of the characters and the mood of it all was wonderful (even the in-jokes didn't distract from the overall atmosphere). It was like life, it had its highs and lows and there were no guarentees of a happy ending or even an ending... and that was what was delivered, a real life ending (in as much as it ended). Thank you and I look forward to playing more of your games - keep up the good work, please. :)

Under rating threshold (show) Point and click games aren't really my kind of game. I rate most of them 2/5, but sometimes I find one that I actually like, and rate it 3/5. This game is different. It is filled with beautifully hand-drawn pictures. The difficulty is in a way, that even bad players can do everything without using a walkthrough. And then there's the fantastic story, with so many good elements and smaller stories. My only complaint is that the music gets very repetitive, but it's easy to turn it off. I've never rated a point and click game more than 3/5, so it's a huge complinent that this goes all the way to 5/5. Very well done!

Under rating threshold (show) In the beginning, when beautifull woman said that magic was tied to color and everybody has only one breath, i thought of Brandon Sanderson's "Warbreaker". Magic works here quite different though. I liked the game very much, thank you.

+ - !

(1)

Developer response from BlackOliveGames

Yeah. It didn't really make the connection between 'my' Breath and Warbreaker's Breath until someone in these comments pointed it out to me. It wasn't intentional, and it works quite differently. I did read Warbreaker though, very good book ;)

Under rating threshold (show) One thing that kind of bugs me: It's possible to complete chapter 3 without talking to the monk, but it still mentions his words in the chapter epilogue. Other than that, though, one of the best games on this site.

+ - !

(2)

Developer response from BlackOliveGames

Sooo.... did you complete the chapter without talking to the monk? :D I figured, if you came all the way to ch3, you're pretty likely to talk to him. And if you don't use the hintbook, then you HAVE to talk to him in order to get the answer about the colour of the berries and the hint about the fallen star.

Developer response from BlackOliveGames

I'm a big fan of the earlier magical, whimsical, insane DW novels when Rince, the witches and captain Carrot and Nobby were King. The newer ones, they're touch and go; there's a different energy behind the writing and they just feel... not the same.

Under rating threshold (show) Hah! Is it wrong that I'm slightly proud of my "first catch"? x3 And the part of me that wants a continuation is very small. I evidently didn't make it clear... You've created pure fuel for the imagination. I can't express how much I condone that. If you gave in and wrote more of the story right now, I would wish to virtually slap you. =oP What you guys did here isn't just fiction (albeit with a "message"), it's a plea to create your own, to remember how to amuse ourselves and not just play pre-organised games (yes, yes I know this itself is a pre-organised game, but it has to be to exist at all). That's how I see it anyway, and I just CAN'T be the only one who does. =oP
