Awesome game!!!! I would suggest that the recover pillars only give you a checkpoint if you press up. This way you can have a checkpoint at one end of the world, and not have to run all the way back if you forget to do something....like....I did....and if a checkpoint is active, then you don't need to press up to get health. Basically just reverse the roles of giving you health and check-pointing....if that makes sense...

You created every level with an XML EDITOR?!?!? Seriously!? Wow man people go around saying they spent 1,000 hours in MS Paint but you're totally serious!

ChainedLupine, can i marry you?
This was an excellent experience for me.
Its actually kind of educational, too.

clunky controls, not able to shoot in the air ( at least with quills to begin with) and quills land annoyingly far away making it unnecessarily hard to kill things oh yeah and a crap load of dialog boxes cropping up all the time. Not a gaming experience for me at least.

Once I figured out how to kill the second boss the game regained its amazingness. I look forward to future updates/sequels. :D

This game was awesome! It definitely brings the feeling of a true retro game and that is worth quite some praise. It doesn't feel too short like some games leave players feeling (I completed the first play-through in an hour and a half). The only things I would like to see is the ability to shoot spines in air and when you find secret areas, clear the foreground layer to show the "cave" you are moving through. What would also be cool is, taking from metroid, secret breakable walls. If you added that then more and more upgrades could be hidden or just fun facts.

You read the entire bibliography by Isaac Asimov, didn't you? I think the story is quite at the level of "The Gods Themselves". This game is so brilliant!

Oh man, I adore this game! The story's brilliant, the gameplay is challenging without being repetitive, and it looks great. I especially love all those little high-altitude easter eggs. I found three, the one about the game's being a competition entry, one about the engine used, and one about how the player is a pterodactylgreyhoud thing. I'll have to see if I can find any more when I go back to see the bad ending.

@Nighthawk30 Thanks, but I think I did have a bug. The text box never came up to initiate the battle. I tried reloading and continuing, and it had the same problem. However, after a few days I tried again and it worked. So I'm all good now.
Managed to beat the boss with only 3 health bars, too.

Beating the boss cheat sheet: The boss will fire off a round of lasers, then 3 arrows that follow you, then a bomb. You must get under the bomb and jump up and hit it, that will knock it back into the boss, which will knock the boss down to the ground, allowing you to fire a quill at it to harm it. Do this 4 more times, and the boss will be defeated. Plus if you like this.

So I think I found a glitch. I went into the transporter at the area before the one at the far right (I assume the temple) and it triggered a cutscene with my critter overlooking the temple. When the cutscene ends, I'm standing in a small level and a ship floats in from the left and stops in the center of the stage. At this point, I can't interact with anything. My quills can't reach the ship, and nothing I touch when I move around and jump does anything.
Is this ship normal? Is it supposed to be moving, am I supposed to be fighting it?

Wow...seriously, may be one of the best games on Kong. The graphics, the sound and music, the story, the controls, the overall gameplay, actually having to explore, and figure out what you need to go where, or how to get past an area or defeat an enemy; not to mention all the care and effort and time ChainedLupine has clearly put into it (finding the fun facts was one of the coolest parts...I found three, is that all of them?). Everything about this game is just awesome. 10/5

really interesting game. I forgot that a game like this existed since it's been so long since i last played one. But I must say, it's great to get back into them again. I love the concept, the visuals, and even the music. You've done yourself an excellent job there.

My fourth favorite game on Kongregate would have to be “Legend of Kalevala”. It has a “good” and a “bad” ending. There is an in game item called “Ancestor Records” that contains 18 different achievements that is fun trying to get, as well as the three from Kong. You can finish this game in under an hour, but much more fun to me if you really search things out. (hint: go for the “good” ending)

I think I found a bug: Pausing and unpausing causes a same sound two times times in row. (I think it's supposed to be only once)
But if you press P to pause the game again right after unpausing, the next time you unpause, the sound will be louder, and it gets quite loud after doing that multiple times.

unless the game was glitched the fourth song is impossible to get until you get all three crystals and it says i have it when i got the third song.can anyone tell me if this is a bug or what.i have only found three songs
