I won on my third try with this strategy after starting in Cuba (disease name Capitalism!). I skipped coughing at the start because buying and selling it seemed wasteful, and those 7 points saved did help at the end. I kept sneezing slightly longer than suggested. All regions were infected (Argentina last) after 24 days, and all were exterminated after 74 days. 3/5 for luck-based gameplay, boosted to 4/5 for cultural impact. Shut down everything, indeed.

FINALLY got the impossible badge today. Started in Canada, which should have made it harder. Tips for others struggling with this:
1) Use a Virus
2) Do not spend ANY points on Transmission effects.
3) Starting out, the only Symptoms on your disease should be Sneezing Coughing and Fever.
4) Boost to Drug Resist 2 immediately. Wait until a vaccine is researched to get 3 and 4.
5) You do not need to get Heat, Cold, and Moisure resistance beyond 1, and not until your starting is at 50K infection.

first you need to complete the transmission
second complete the FIRST FIVE symptoms ONLY
third complete ALL of the Resistance which, yes, you need patience
finally, get it everything done

This game is the basis for Plague, a Game of the Year winner. They do attribute this game as their inspiration on their website. It is a different, private company that produces Plague. There are a few differences between the games too.

So lucky. Every country infected in 19 days using virus. Started in New Zealand and upgraded heat and moisture resistances. My reasoning was that I wanted the virus to grow as little as possible in my starting country but grow as fast as possible every where else.
