Im not sure if I'm up to date (1.6.6), but apparently, I CAN'T place fences on top of each other. So I'm just starting an arguement with the other people....

Actually austin131000, diamond is the best, because it can mine any material which it is possible to mine. Gold cannot successfully mine obsidian, but diamond can.

sum1sbanana,you can but you have to place a block on top of the fence then place a block on top of that block and break the first block you placed,and then place the fence so it takes a little time to actually do a structure with fences on top of fences.

@sum1sbanana Yes, Yes you can. You must place blocks until you reach the desired height of your ending result and then place a fence on the top block after this remove the top block and place a fence on the block that is now on top and continue this until there are no blocks left.
