I think A.I. for the enemy is a little unbalanced. example: If there is a large yellow army and a large red army and a small player army, the red's and yellow's will focus nearly all of their forces on the player instead of fighting each other. I don't know if that is on purpose all I know is that it makes me sooooooooo mad when I'm trying to build my armies. In fact it's for this reason I haven't beaten this game in a week of playing it. I just want to know if it's on purpose or if it's some kind of mistake with the A.I.

How I beat 19 + levels:
Expand your village and make a decent army that can hold the enemy off for a while, but do not use ANY other abilities than Terraform. You wanna save mana for the Water Storm. After you build up your army and the enemy starts closing up on you its time to peace out. Go far away from the enemy as possible (using way point) and try to destroy that way behind you. By that time you should be close to 500 mana for your finisher . After you start the Water Storm (it destroys all blocks) make sure you build some blocks under your guys before they drown and you win the game. Hope this helped :)

ppl stuck on lv 19: build north away from enemies, get to the top of screen and build land right towards goal. use land down to keep green from attacking up the top and join land finally from above the goal to win without fighting that much. ;) ....Ps, use the waypoint tool to draw troops north, then click 'make settlements' when they get there so you can keep building the land bridge round the enemies!

what if we made this into large team games, for example, all for one, teams, campaign like teams where everyone is someone else... stuff like that yaknow

>Start level 19
>First 30 seconds: earth hero sent at me
>90 seconds: second earth hero
>100 seconds: lightning storm sent at me
>110 seconds: Fire Mountain
>115, 120, 125, 130 seconds: fire
Well, I enjoyed it until then. That's not even the worst scenario. I've also seen Lightning storm+marsh the instant the round starts.

I wish the units were smarter. A enemy's hero will be wrecking my cities and my guys will do absolutely nothing to stop it

Two things. First, "you are" is abbreviated as "you're", not "your". Second, it would be so much more convenient if I didn't have to click on every tile to alter it, but could keep the mouse button pressed and alter several tiles at once.
Thanks, typo noted and will be sorted soon :D Click drag terraform would be good, looking into a touch version at moment with new UI etc and that would lend it's self well to those devices.

On Island 14 now. Game is getting rather boring because there is no challenge at all. All levels play out exactly the same:
1) terraform a massive flat area, preferably away from enemy tribes
2) wait until you have more soldiers than your enemy
3) press looking for a fight button
4) go get coffee
5) world domination

Brings back nice memories! Thank you!
One thing I've noticed about mana economy: it appears to charge you per click when terraforming, but imagine raising a top of a big mountain - a lot of terrain will be raised with such click. If I recall correctly Populous would charge more mana for such click (i.e. affecting more terrain).

it was an incredible game. I really like the skirmish mode. also I would really love a second one. more powers and different land masses. you shouldalso add longergame modes. and listen tome rambolling on tata.

Just as olus2000 said, all you have to do is build a huge plane with max level cities once you've got some more strength than your enemies, just attack them and use your powers to help your soldiers. BTW, in my opinion the most OP and fun totem is the Fire Mountain.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
A strategy that worked for me: once you have the water storm totem, you should be able to win almost any level by terraforming your territory into a high mountain, focusing on builing a decently sized settlement, then literally drowning your opponents with several water storm waves. This also usually slows down any attacks in the meantime since it wipes out most landbridges.

Multiplayer game could be nice, but a game that leveling up DOESN'T affect how strong or weak you are, maybe you ask, so no level up? no, there could be leveling up, but it just could unlock maps, features por matches, and tribe skins (and flags could be too)

ugh im at 83%.. have to stop, not from difficulty, but from it being so repetitive... 25 lvls would have been just as good.. every level i just terraform a big square platform around my initial base, and then set to attack. throw some fire pillars here and there.. bam 30 level beaten. was populous really this dull? i only played the demo of populous 2 when it first came out and it seemed pretty good.
:D Yep it gets a lot more challenging. A few people have got stuck at 19 but generally just keep your population moving around (using way point totem) and expanding. Remember you only need to collect the totem on this level.

Fantastic fun to play this for an old populous fan. I miss a strength indicator for people/characters. It seems to me also that heroes and leaders don't get much stronger collecting even a lot of people? My leader/hero seems to die after a couple of fights no matter how many I collect. Anyone else have this experience?

@ Self Perfection: you can only terraform areas that you control exclusively (and provided you have sufficient mana, of course). If a tile would impact an enemy structure (either negatively or positively), you cannot terraform it. Forest growth is used in combination with the flame column to 'corrupt' more squares and temporarily denying the enemy more land, making their structures easier to conquer; haven't seen it in this game yet, but in Populous you could actually see fire spread through the trees into a structure and burning it down - I figure in this game it will at the very least impact enemy folks walking on the square with a tree that catches fire. I hope this helps :)

i think my favorite thing to do is spam forest everywhere in a large powerful nation then drop a single fire bomb and watch the fire just spread

Hahaha, I really enjoyed this! though the only way I got through it was by building giant mountains and drowning the rest of the world 500 mp at a time...

@dryfter That's exactly what i was trying not to say, no ones copied each other, there just some one elses interpretation of a genre. Yeah ideas are borrowed modified and improved upon, but last time i checked that's a large part of the media industry and even the industrial & engineering industry. For example, Alexander Bell didn't invent the telephone, he just improved upon some other guys ideas and made it practical.

I didn't like the game at all, I gave it a bit of a try but there are too many problems for me to like it..
There is a severe lack of tooltips I have no idea what gathering does, what a leader means, what I need to do to win, and how each status affects the settlement(I mean the top right buttons).
What does forest even do? the terraforming aspect seem fun but there are 2 problems: the cursor isn't really clear where you stand, and you don't know how it affects anything, ye I know it's a 8 years old game and it won't change.. 2/5 anyway.

Amazing game! It is SO much like populous! OH, how can i forget the music!? The music is awesome, just like the game. I don't know why this game only has a 3.7 star rating! In my little world, this would be a 4.75 star game! But it would be nice if, when you moused over a ability, it would say a bit about what is does. but still a 4.75/5 star game! :D

Twice now I've had level 19 under control, when most of my spells stopped working. Is this a bug, or is there some game mechanic I don't know about? I would target a location with Fire Mountain, Lightning Storm, or another spell, and while my mana would deplete, nothing else would happen.

For later levels, build your houses at the highest possible point. That way, you can use water storms repeatedly without even wasting any soldiers on fighting them. It also covers the whole map, so all other enemy tribes will get caught in the blast.

I came back. Hurray for that dragging can be used to raise/lower terrain. A real time saver.............
I don't know if this was in there originally, but there is a limit as to how many cities you can have. Kind of a downer as I would love to populate the entire sector. And if you fill your limit cap at home it is basically impossible to conquer the enemy since you cannot build a city to prevent them from rebuilding their cities. But it is only sorta bothersome.........
And I really like the Skirmish mode. I think I have beaten around 11 session. So much greatness.
