Guardsmen are hands down the best unit. They may not be the most powerful, but they're incredibly versatile and cost efficient. Deploy one or two with a skirmisher behind and you've got yourself a decent push.

There isn't a single map that cannot be beaten by dumping scouts into empty lanes, selectively leaking enemy units you cannot reasonably defeat, and calling engineer waves to recover before you finish all enemy units.

most enemies don't use cavalry or spears, making most of your specialist units weaker, while I've discovered that sometimes it's best to IGNORE the enemy and focus on keeping your health up while lowering theirs with engineers, really helpful vs berserkers.

With full upgrades you can beat almost any level with almost any unit combination as long as you have a tanking unit and the skirmisher in. In legendary mode since upgraders have a higher cap you can beat almost any level with any ranged unit alone (Tomb lords Dark barrier and health regen can't be stoped by ranged units). It is fun to see the whole map in ALL lines full of my skirmishers.

I don't really know why this game is voted really badly. It's great, with the opportunity to become something to rival bigger games. This is one of those really short but quite hard games that let you remember that games are more than just animations.
Swinebrook Berserkers Tip:
Use one legionary, one skirmisher and one helian archer. Providing you have enough upgrades, it'll be a breeze.

i have the best strategy to beat swinebrook and the orc beserkers! This took me only one try to do. so what you do is spam buy a bunch of 10 gold units in a single line where there are no enemies asap, let enemies get through your lines while yours go through theirs, you'll beat them first because of all the units you have spammed getting through, they'll stop spawning and you can finish off the few remaining if you need to. I won very quickly with 25 out of 100 HP left. Like if you think others should see this strategy!

@vinchenso Swarm Border Cav, if you have the income thing at maxlevel you can completely zerg your way to to the last level with them

Those orc bezerks are killer. They hit first, faster, and seem to have a range before my swordsmen. I seem to need ~4 archers, or 1 heavy sword and 2 archers. That's really expensive to kill a single unit, not to mention that the AI stacks the bezerk w/ a heavy cav (on SwineBrook) Help!

Pretty easy until the last fight, and then WOW is it hard. Or maybe I just don't know which units to use. I used assassins for almost every level up to there...

Most OP combo is the skirmisher + crossbow. The crossbow will chip down stack of enemies from afar, while skirmisher dps are stackable (up to 5 times), cheap, and a full stack of them will destroy even cavalry. Use Shield Maiden or Ninja to tank for them at the beginning (when you can't spend 80+ gold right away yet)

I've found that the assassins are pretty overpowered. I kept them in my line up right to the end. The price + dodge and 10% chance kill make them pretty consistently awesome.

effective tactic:
defend you for some time and save some gold (100 is enough depending on the stage). choose a empty lane, spam it with cavalry and watch.

Double axe guy is overpowered. I cannot finnish Swinebrook level.
There is no unit that could kill him (even two units cannot kill him). I need to put at least 3 units to kill him. Guardsman and Spearsman since spearman have best results against him. Archers are useless because Guardsman is killed too fast and Archers cannot kill him after that. That means i need to put at least 3 soldiers against 1 double axe man and there is no enough money. For only 3 axeman i need to put 9 soldiers on battlefield.
I guess it depends how do you upgrade units but game should not depend on that because you cannot know in advance what will come in the future level.
If someone have solution except play from beggining...

i like the game so far, only one thing i would like is to be able to have more then 6 units in my army at a time, but otherwise i enjoy playing it

I think the fear effect is rather overpowered: my enemy just kept spamming units with fear and I could basicly never charge the entire lvl

@elijahpbolware: I think that's part of the strategy of the game that units occupy blocks and can't be passed. The point of making 5 hammer guys in a row is that you just made a really bad squad. Think of your men like units, if it helps. No good commander sends wave after wave of tanks, regardless of changes in enemy tactics from jeeps to RPGs.

Balancing of costs could be improved. Compare Bone Fiend vs Lurker. Fiend has + 2 vs light units, Lurker has + 4 vs ranged, + 40 hp, + 10 attack, & poison. Naturally, they cost the same.

When I reached the 4th island, I decided to try and get 100% on the previous levels and I quickly realized that I could easily do this by flooding all of the rows with skirmishers. I dub this the "zombie" strategy.

this is a great game. but here are some sugestons, on empires of arkiea 2 (if theres a second) you should make it where the units go through eachother. whats the point of puting 5 hammer men out i they fight one at a time? also, there should be a survival mode. you know? 50 gold each round you suceed 5-10 75 10-15 100
also, you could add more units, maybe even spells. for example:horseman, heavyhorseman, peagusis rider.
just some ideas.

I'm on the 8th island and I'm pretty sure I've unlocked every character at this point. Close to maxing my skill tree (first playthrough). I think it's safe to say that this is a fantastic game. Sunk the majority of my free time into it for the past week. Well done, developers!

@bainclay, so is scrap metal from warlords so is warlords from even older games. Feedback: to inpatient to read text, make continue display all text instead of skip it

ork berserker is op, there is no effective way to kill them. heavy armor, fail assassins, cavs, fail heavy armor backed with ranged troops, works but it sucks a lot of money from you

felt weak the entire time even with upgrades. They need to be more noticeable, games fantastic. 3* for now look forward to updates.
