Start with the 2 shooter. save up 10 for damage. second purchase get the sniper, spend on cooldown until you get to 400/300 and then all damage. then buy the health booster and max that on buffs. then buy the drones. save up for guns, and then number of drones.
Win everytime.
To make this better though I think you should be able to convert extra money on upgrades instead of just waiting for level ups. Needs the ability to continue level past 10. Also needs the ability to carry money earned to next campaign. :)

Lol, the final boss is a joke. I just shot it with the heavy cannon, the cheapest gun in the game, and it went down in like 10 seconds.

*SPOILER* For the hard campaign, I finally managed to beat it with a Glass Cannon approach. Final setup was three Radio Plasmoids (+damage upgrades, +health in the later levels) in the front, and two Damage Buffers (+damage upgrades) in the back.
To start, get all three Plasmoids, putting them in the back and top, and two of the cheapest guns for the front and bottom. Only upgrade +health on the cheap guns; they are just there to soak damage until you can afford the Buffers.
Hope this helps; I'm sure there are better setups, but the best defense is a good offense!

For those who actually want to beat the kong challenge, it's fairly easy if you go one of several routes: 1) Nothing but damage boosts and 1 dual machine gun, for the upgrades have damage>fire speed> health. Fairly easy game, with enough damage output to destroy anything you can hit before it's halfway through the screen. 2) Radio Plasmid Guns, maybe 1 damage buffer. Have only one of them spec'd speed, and the rest focused on damage; shoot with the speedy one, and the rest will have it's firerate. Warning: leads to a NEGATIVE accuracy score. 3) Damage and the starter cannon. This is the hardest one i've tried, but it should theoretically lead to a higher accuracy, assuming that you can hit everything. One shot, one kill, only to be used by the scoreseekers out there. Those are the only ones i've tried, but it seems fairly simple; you don't have to worry about more than this wave, so go for Dakka unless you want score. Then you should go for Massive Damage.

great game but when the boats with the three ballons come for some reason i cant switch between my machine gun turrets? it did however finally let me select my last turret once all of my other ones were dead and it had half health left and the screen was littered with all sorts of enemy's bombing it.. maybe you could increase the size of the select box or decrease the size of the box the enemy's have so it makes it easier to select your turrets before you're just about to loose the level? thanks HeroInteractive!

Tip for challenge: One dual machine gun, two remote missiles and one health buffer.
Note that you can pre-fire the missiles before the enemies come, then use hot key(number 1, 2, 3, 4) to switch back to machine gun. Second try to complete the challenge.

I came across a pretty cool glitch: go in the middle of a game, and try to go back a page-it will remain, but the game will reset with the opponents you were fighting. Mine was the Kong challenge. Anyway, great game, 5/5 big reccomendation to anyone who is a master strategist.

Good game, but i never got past the first campaign. still stuck on that one wave where its almost nothing but giant zeppelins and those cannons that look like a seashell. too hard. 7.5/10

I like how I got the medium badge even though I died in the challenge :)
For the campaign I just used the one dual machine gun followed up with decoy drones in the other slots with added gun, more drone addon and health seems to win all the missions.

Found a weird bug...I beat the kong challenge with only secondary weapons and had a NEGATIVE accuracy rating! LoLwut. It was -36000 something points.

I have a suggestion to the dev.if you plan on updating or making a storm winds 2 maybe making it where the turrets not under player control still attack but the one under player control do extra dmg.also the drones should respawn when killed and the upgrade for drones amount should be amount on battle field at a time because drones are weak and its useless if they get killed. + if you agree so the dev can see. thank you

i have been shooting for like 30 minutes (manually coz this crep game dont shoot auto) and still dint completed CAMPAIGN 1..... it was suposed to be fun but if i need more than 2 hours to complete it, is just not worth the time.. hey dev remove 3 slots or put auto shoot

There are games that warn you when your weapons don´t quite fit the levels requirements to win - THIS DOESN´T. It´s really annoying to be forced to start over a level just because beating the enemy at the end of the wave e.g. requires a missile weapon so that you can shoot behind the shield ship!

so many guns to choose from, yet they are all useless, except the dual machine guns. increasing upgrade cost vs. increasing enemy difficulty is a clear loss for upgrades. I tried to like this game ... it was not possible

Hint: You don't need to win the Kongregate Challenge to get the Badge. Just put out one turret and let it die and you'll get 15 points.
