You have literally re-invented chess. you should really give this game idea to a company that makes board games and it may catch on and become just as famous as chess, risk, stratego, etc. good job man.
as for the A.I. that can always be tweeked or changed eventually. it doesnt matter that much what really matters is the gameplay itself.

AI loses when the flag is captured. So, if there's a powerful AI unit between a somewhat weak human unit and the flag... THE AI MOVES IT AWAY SO YOU CAN CAPTURE THE FLAG???

brilliant. Played for 5 min and already love it. Reminds me of the old days when the game play was more important than the graphics. Regardless of how quick it can be beat, it will have a lot of replay value. Loved how you keep adding pieces. Gets a bit difficult to remember what can move where...but that was part of the fun!

The AI at hard is particulary brillant (for a flash game at least) as long as _you play well yourself_ . Start to misbehave, send your piece to massacre, take unreasonable risk and you will win without sweat even the latest levels in one or two try. The AI will look completly stupid...

Was a big fan of checkers and chess as a kid. Learning the moves all over again makes this a lot of fun. randomization isn't a big part of strategy. Go for 'standard formations' and see how much better the AI might be. any AI improvement will make the game a winner!

well this game is good except for one problem if the centaur is on a a white colored block and the flags on a brown one well then its impossible for it to take the flag maby add it so it can only go forward when infrount of the flag?other than tht i give it a 4/5

good game but i wish there were more types of peaces coz theres really only 4 but with upgrades it would be better if there were 8 types of peaces with upgrades but still 4/5

i haven't played chess in years..... and now i need to go out and buy a chess set. I love this game! 5/5. Great twist, like the others said, it's kinda like learning all over again, but in a good way

Very nice game. Like everyone has said, the A.I. is not particularly smart, but I won't rate down for that because I would assume that writing the script for a good A.I. would be very difficult and take a long time.

This game is very well done. Conceptually, it's a masterpiece, I think if you were able to find someone with better graphical designing capabilities, you can really make this game just bloody awesome.

in reading your posts JoshuaJewell, I think the key fault is that the AI only looks 1 turn in advance (either attacking or defending). Most chess AI software looks 8 turns ahead. Granted, this game is a little simpler than chess, but it's very easy to fool the AI with moves like sacrifices etc to get its pieces out of position because it can't see that if it moves a piece, it's dead in 2 turns.... Otherwise a great game with a lot of potential!

could you make the arrow, the one that shows when a unit is taken, fade away? sometimes when they run from corner to corner it blocks up a good bit of the board. also perhaps show what unit has just been destroyed

The soldier (pawn) should be able to move backwards once he reaches the end of the board. Its really aggravating when you have a soldier right next to the enemy's flag and not be able to take it

I know that making AI is hard especially to this king of game, but it's too bad. Enemy doesn't even deffend his flag! In fact he oppened the way for my rook. Sorry to say, but it could at least do that, and count a figures 'price' before attacking.

knowing the AI doesn't think more than 1 move ahead makes it too easy on the 'hard' esp with the more advanced units with queen/rook/bishop movements

It's been so long since i've played a game that i can actually get into and really enjoy, i was saddened when i finished the game, so i thought "Maybe there's a way that it would never end", so i was thinking and realized that adding a multiplayer to the game would be very fun as you could play against many different play styles and difficulties of players, just a thought

Pretty fun, although maybe instead of just dropping new pieces on a player, a short blurb about who they are and what they do would make things more engaging. You could also introduce variant movement rules this way, if you don't mind clobbering the player over the head with pop-up boxes.

I love finding the perfect attack for each opposing army. It's like a military strategy where you have to find the weakness of your foe, be it the lack of defense, a weak offense, or a failure to keep away the opponents. Great game, love the concept, 5/5

Its a really good game and you put alot of time into it but its wayy too easy... i beat all the levels in all y difficulties in 45minutes...

@JoshuaJewell, this game is a wonderful, absorbing board game. I hope you make another difficulty! Honestly, it has been quite a long time since I've looked up from a game and said to myself, "How long was I playing?"
As for your work on showing differences in the level of pieces, I could easily spot the additions to each piece, but if I was just glancing at the board on certain levels, I could get confused, or misread the opponent's pieces and mess myself up. Something that could work is using opposite-color banding on the chest or shield (one stripe for lv 1, 2 for lv 2, 3 for 3, black/grey banding on the white, white/grey banding on the black). It would be a pretty big visual cue for a player just glancing at the board, and it would not require adding extra colors or numbers for easier recognition.
Thanks again for making a great addicting game!

I conquered cities. I led armies to their inevitable fate. I saw men cry out in anguish as they were slain in the pursuit of their goals. I conquered those who had opposed me, and defended my honor as a general with the perseverance of my men and my own skills of leadership. But now, after all the bloodshed, I can finally clai-
"Congratulations, you beat easy, can you beat medium and hard?"

Question: Is it normal for your AI to trade a piece with 8 move options for my mediocre 3 move option piece?
I have a rating of 1800 in real chess, and trading a queen for a pawn sounds dumb. Or is it just me...? ;P
Great game on the whole. AI improvements will massively increase the fun involved! :D
