Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Any EE guys wanna tell me why if I build a 2N2222 it acts as an xor gate? Because the lack of resistor makes ground just as attractive as the output?

Found a diagram for a NOR gate, I'm just adding a NOT onto the end, surely not very efficient but should do the job :P
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I figured out how to make a quad input AND gate, but I can't get a working OR gate without essentially shorting my inputs, cry.

Dual set-reset latch, has some problems with synchronization at first though :/

Although it does oversimplify things a little bit (an NPN transistor's output will indeed be a large positive when then input on the PN junction is positive (forward biasing the base to emitter junction), but the connection from the emitter to ground and the resistor used to generate some output is omitted), it's honestly surprisingly close to the real deal. Triple E majors, if you just imagine these are all common-emitter configurations with an invisible resistor leading to ground on the emitter of your transistors, this will make a lot more sense.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I agree with jcp_bill. I have an electrical engineering degree and had to throw out my notions of what a transistor can and can't do before I really understood this game. Now however, it is quite fun.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
the key gameplay element -- what the two kinds of transistors do, and how to build them -- is hidden too deeply in the tutorial video. which is kind of a shame; it could be a good learning experience if it just helped people over that initial hump a little.

Quite fascinating, although not accessible to those without an electrical or computer engineering background. The challenges are of good difficulty, and my only complaint is that the game relies on the shift key, instead of the option of allowing the player to only use the mouse.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Apparently the shift key is used to switch between types of silicon, but it does nothing for me. I can't create anything but N-type silicon, so the game is pretty unplayable.

Design score seems to be:
DS = silicon squares + metal squares.
Gates (overlap squares) count as 1 point
Vias appear to be free.

@ Everybody who doesn't understand it: You have the task to construct some important pieces of electronic circuits. All you have is the test signals, a battery (always 1) and AND or NOT gates. Look up certain constructions online or think logically to combine these and try to match the output.

Can someone post the oscillator, I did all the others of the first ones, but here I have no Idea (I did shorter oscillations ;))
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I... I want to like it, but I just don't have the first clue what on earth I'm meant to do. I understand the aim of a unit, and even how to accomplish that aim. But when I try to get my brain to mentally construct that it all falls to pieces.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I have a question about the design scoring. Clearly, less is more here, as long as it meets the 97% criteria on the verification test. But I got the 63 on the pulse by shortening my pulse, which is only 1.4 divisions long instead of the specified 2. Is that really better? I don't know. If the test was shorter, my design wouldn't pass. If there are any people who do this for a living, chime in on what the most appropriate design metric is?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@VDOGamez: yes, you can delay it by putting AND gates. Nine and-gates in series usually give the right length.
Has anyone made a decent flip-flop or d-latch yet? The VCC keeps getting current trough.. =/

bug with the snippets. Was working fine earlier. Now it asks me to save but nothing is being displayed in the window.

Kivs: Exactly. I love his games. not an engineer but I have dabbled in electionics...but you don't need to be for this game. It's all logic. Undo button is KEY!

on 5, I'm wondering if the reason my timing becomes so off towards the end of the enable pin if it's the computer I'm on...like if it was faster would the timing be better.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
like all his games, you should be familiar with electrical engineering, which I'm only a hobbiest in. So I guess they're not for everyone. but I love the logic part of EE.

Figured out how to place Silicon P and to delete Metal....you have to hold shift with either silicon or delete selected to perform the optional tasks. Definitely needs improvements in the tutorial section, maybe a series of practice circuits to get use to the controls and how different circuits perform, especially for those of us who are not electrical engineers. 2/5 for now but has potential.
