The best way to defeat the boss is to constantly go for defense, counter attack, and heal. Since the boss does so much more damage than you, the counter damage will inflict lots of damage.

I got through the last boss in three tries also without full upgrades. Probably partly luck, but my strategy was to always go for Shields if I could, waiting for a combo to come up. Block + Counter generally did more damage than any attacks I had.

Here's a suggestion for preventing super-luck combos. When the number of tiles cleared as a result of a single swap goes above 4, blank tiles will start dropping in (one blank tile for 5 cleared tiles, a second for 9 cleared tile, a third for 12, a fourth for 14, and then one blank tile for every tile cleared). These blank tiles cannot create matches, and will remain on the board until the opposing player's turn. When control switches to the other player, the blank tiles will transform into regular tiles without creating matches, using a similar method to generating tiles on a reshuffled board.

For real? You guys must stop complaining about luck, and dont look only at the first combination. Try combos. Extra Turn. Rainbow (great to instant rage), upgrade character. Strategy? Man, he is AI, he will attack when he have a chance. Ever. See, i beat him at 2nd time, w/o all upgrades. What i did? 100% def up, 144% counter blow. I just let him use his rage in me. But, for real. If you wanna survive, use ever you can def up. (100%)

When will match games learn to stop it with the 'given' combos? i.e. All three new items from the top were the same type, combo for you. You didn't earn it, you didn't 'puzzle' your way to get that combo, but the game decided to give you one just because. I hate that.

I think my big problem with it is that the entire thing is more luck than anything else. Half the time it's impossible for me to do damage because it starts out without any blocks in position for it - then when I do something one option pops up, so the opponent takes it. It's crushingly obvious that winning has absolutely nothing to do with strategy, and just brute persistence.

For all the people saying last boss is too hard, it does take luck but I was able to do it after a few tries without even full upgrades. Priority at beginning goes to damaging matches, if only one use it, if not use shield/counter combo if possible. After that make sure you use all the damage combos and if there are none try not to let the octopus get one (highly down to luck as to which three drop). It is possible to slowly bring him down to size.

Yeah that boss is ludicrously overpowered. I had really good luck for the first part of the battle, but it only takes one good turn for him to completely mess you up. Multiplayer would be cool too.

The only real luck involved in the final battle is whether or not you get enough defense gems to survive his attacks, because they do absurd damage... but it does not matter when you can take 93% less damage from everything with just a 3 of a kind match. Even the final boss goes easy and does not pick 4 or 5 of a kinds unless they fall from the sky for him. The music was really the only other thing that stood out to me.

that moment when you realize you have a 124% counter and a 100% defend and they decide to do a rage attack... gotta love it

I have 85% hp and he has 3hp left, no problem. No more energy? Well theres only 2 yellows... 5 rounds later: Only 5 yellows and they aren't close. Oh, whats that? Super luck combo with 2 5-match bombs and 2 4-matches, and now I have 17 hp and you go again and you fill your rage meter and all of this got you up to 75% health and you kill me? Well time to quit.

The key to beating the boss in managing to get defense and counter at the same time. Then he will hit you for little and you will be able to hit back harder than you would with your own attacks. 5/5

i go on the game and look at the name first and see ryu, i think its ryu from street fighter and im like YEA im gonna use haudouken on all the enemies than i look up and see a dog and a cat and im like wtf, rate up if this is amusing

This has to be one of the best ideas for a match-three game I have ever encountered. I like the RPG element it has, as well as the fact that each gem color does something different. The enemies would be even more interesting if some were more intelligent but less powerful, while others have stronger attacks but choose moves poorly. A few ideas: Make the heal more effective, make rage attacks defense-proof, and make it so a dead player can't counter-attack. Several times I had brought my opponent's health to zero, and their counter-attack brought mine to zero. It still counted as a win, but it doesn't make a lot of sense. One more suggestion: A SEQUEL!

Love it, 5 stars. I really like to see innovative ideas with the match 3 puzzle games. I'd love to see this game expanded. I wouldn't say the boss is that hard at all, as long as you know the basics of match-3 strategy. It's less luck than you'd think if you are thinking ahead.

its funny how nice looking game is RUINED by making luck factor way too high. And i hate it when octopuss is getting lucky agains me ALL THE TIME. I Had full health with 130% retaliation and then the other octopuss came... Its turn and he got like 4 new turns and killed me instantly :( that was the 10th time i tried to beat that guy, no more!!

the heal barely heals you. i also found two bugs. If you get your rage full and the squid transforms, it's his turn and you don't get to rage until you make a rage match again. Also i could've gotten a four row attack when the blocks fell but it only counted as 3.

I've gotten the octo down to below 100 a couple of times, but that's two or three times out of 1.5 hours trying... Luck is decisive in that fight. Not a big fan of depending solely on luck. Up until that fight I was thinking 4/5, now I'm thinking I'll rate it 1/5 and then go slash my wrists.

You must have patience to defeat the final boss. My strategy is to match Defense as much as possible, then hope you get a combo, preferably with counterattack. That way when he attacks you, you can block it all with defense and then hit him back for extra damage with the counter attack. If you have to match an attack, make sure he doesn't have defense or counter attack, if he does then try to build up your health, energy or rage instead.

Seriously, if you guys think the final boss is hard then don't start a game with the character that you unlock by beating the game. Is pretty much all energy. With him you have to pray for lots of rage, heal, and defense until you can get him decently upgraded.

Beat the game ... and with a lot of luck. In the last battle I defeated the first octopus in one (!) attack and was able to kill the second one after a reshuffle. Yet, the whole game is based on a lot of luck and especially the last level is quite a strain to play. The idea is good, but the actual 'session' can consist of a lot of frustration.

It must just be a game o fluck since I beat the boss on the first try. I don't know, but I think that the AI could be improved.

Over all enjoyable, but way unbalanced. Some matches drag on way too long and the final battle is a battle of pure luck.

What's with people lately? All they want is piece of cake games to beat.
The last boss isn't that hard if you know how to play. He will always go for damage/rage gems, just prevent that.
This game gets a 5/5 from me, it's the best casual 'match 3' I played for quite some time.
A few suggestions would be:
-Make it multiplayer
-More enemies and upgrades
-Some comic history between the matches would be appreciated as well.

This game is pretty awesome. It's one of the best 3 match games I've ever played. The graphics and animals look great. The best part about this game is how the tables can turn in an instant. This game gets 5/5

WOooW I just had 6 in a row (that was the second combo)!!! the bad thing about this is that it counts as 2x3........ no extra turn or extra power

Throughout the whole game i was like.
- "I'm totally gonna give this 5/5!!"
- Until i met the final boss.
This was just way too hard. It got really frustrating.
And i did a couple of rage quits.
Awesome game. But I'm only gonna give it 4/5
- Because of that freaking octopus head.

So I'm rocking along mixing up gems slinging mad energy and generally whooping some weird creature butt and along comes Mr. Octopus with his weak action and bad attitude. One final attack and he's finished, right? Wrong! That MOFO takes you for a ride on the gemological pain train express!
