Revisiting this again... it's a bit lame that in hard mode you have almost no room for experimenting with upgrades in the first few chapters. You either upgrade your ultragun enough to survive chapter 3-4, or else you hit a wall and have to start over.

At the end of chapter 3, when the game tries to screw you over with 1 carrier + 2 other big ships, kill the two smaller ones first before going after the carrier.

A hard game that doesnt force you through a tutorial or babysit you to the point where you feel like your observing rather than playing and doesnt want to milk you for cash? Wish there were more like it.

Here's the strategy for hard mode: Upgrade Ultragun rate and damage(cheapest first) until level 3, putting a few points into repair drones when neccessary. On level 3, only upgrade repair drones' repair power and quantity. On 4, finish upgrading the repair drones and the main gun. After that, get your combat drone bays up to max drones as quickly as possible, then upgrade their other stats cheapest first. The earlier levels are much harder than the later ones - the final boss itself is a cakewalk.

Max Ultragun damage asap is the key to beat hard mode , gun speed is useless. +1 max fighter and 1level fighter hp for Fighter Bay. Laser Turret has much better dps,3 times cost-efficiency than Rocket Turret.Flank Turret is very good against fighter and really useful to absorb damage.Upgrade the repair drone anytime when your HP is below 2/3.

sorry for the problems eppie spacely. some problems seem to be glitches, but the "repair button" actually is a thing to upgrade drones that do repairs, the multiple turrets available aren't actively used, but a game-controlled thing on your ship. if you cant hit the enemies, upgrade fighters more. cant help with the arrows/dialogue/walk through problems

This thing is messed up. I can't get past chapter 3 because the repair button takes my money but doesn't actually repair the ship. The description says there's "several turrets available", but it doesn't tell you which letter of the alphabet to press in order to switch weapons. Enemies are constantly flying off screen (up and down) making it impossible to hit them, and if they're behind your view the red arrows don't even show up at all. Maybe there's instructions in that red box in the lower left, but the text is illegible even at 120% zoom. Very sad.
as a bonus, the walkthrough on a separate website seems to be describing a different game.

The difficult part of the hard badge is surviving to the end of lvl 4; after that with a maxed gun it's a lot easier. Key is to follow branimirb's upgrade guide in Best Comments (I got gun to 3/2/0 I think before I had to upgrade some repair bots...speed isn't as important as the other two), and to practice leading targets correctly for quick kills, and finally to focus fire the large ships at all costs (because they spawn little ones). The luck is how long your fighter cover survives, so don't give up if you bomb out on later levels, just retry.

got overwhelmed way too easily, there should be some downtime before each wave instead of getting so far and then getting immediately destroyed by weird blue ships that have double shots.

the beginning is by far the hardest part of the game. once you upgrade your gun to max and have 4 fighter bays it becomes very very easy.

To follow the storyline way easier, right click on screen when a message appear, it "pause" the game, giving you the time to read.

Hard to read font + text scroll that player can't control. It's as if devs didn't want us to read their story. But with all seriousness: please add the function for players to "turn the page". Everyone reads at their own pace. Some of them are not native speakers, some have RL interruptions, some have trouble reading fast.

Really like the style of the game, but it has some flaws. Wish there was some kind of "next wave"-button, so you didn't have to wait so much. Also some upgrade to make the fighters smarter. A lot of the fighting seems to take place off screen, or at the edge, as well, which isn't very fun. Really nice idea but not so good execution.

Checkpoints shouldn't be saved upon death, also. It should restore the game to the last wave you completed alive, because what a drag to start over from the beginning.

I can't get past chapter 8 due to a bug.
A popup window relating to flash settings will open up at the end of it, and nothing can be done to close it to regain control of the game (it even ignores the tab key).
Even though I've made it to chapter 9, if I refresh the page I'll be back at the start of chapter 8.

One of the best games and story on Kongregate. It has action, good graphics, replayability and it's free!! I just wish the developer would have finished the sequel. Truely a fantastic game that keeps you involved, thinking and planning every minute.

This game would be so much easier and better if you could tell individual turrets what you want them to prioritize. I'm so tired of my forward flak cannons turning backwards to shoot at one tiny ship at the edge of their rear range, instead of annihiliating the incoming meteors like they were designed to.
Additionally, as others have said, it would be nice if we could pause to read text, or if it were otherwise more accessible.
