What I really like about this game is that the protagonist isn't the omnipotent, all-knowing invincible hero you usually see. He has his "dim" moments and, rather than nearly all protagonists, he would rather be a follower more than a leader. It's the little things like that that sets this game apart from all the other extremely-long RPGs.

This game is likely one of the best in its genre, even compared with "professional" games from dedicated software houses. Actually, there are professional games that are far worse than this. It... has extremely high potential, considering this is only the third chapter (out of eight, iirc), but it's not just that. It's ALREADY a great game, even if it ended now. Well, except the plot wouldn't be over.

40 hours. 2 crystals. I [PROFANITY]-ING LOVE THIS GAME! First time I chapter 2 I was like "Woah son, this is like Final Fantasy" and I kept on playing, a very satisfying experience. I love the humour, the music is lovely and fits everything (I especially like Saul's theme and the Saviour's Battle). The character development is ten times better than most RPG's and reminds me of KOTOR: There are multiple allies, they have their own backstory, and there's even a homocidal personality in a robot which made me lol. Keep working on the new chapters, I eagerly await the ending to this one and the experience of more to come.

Completed more than once...a great game
I wish Pseudolonewolf will find idea/friend/money anything to go on with Mardek

Although this is the best flash game series, there still will be a point when the game gets less interesting after you've done most part of the game and all you have to do is grind to beat the annihilators, the solo arenas and finish the game. Other than that, this series has a lot of content for being in flash.

I find it horrible that none of the Mardek in the top 5 RPG games on Kongregate, it pains me at the idiots who come to the second and third games and rate them down because they are actually long and actually have a plot you need to play the other games to understand. These games shouldn't be compared to these short little other "games" on Kongregate, they are on a level with system games and honestly better then most of them I've played. It's a pleasure of mine to say we have a genius making free games like this here, but to the shame of being put down by the idiots who aren't willing to actually experience a game like this. Though I do enjoy some of the games on here that I'm done with in an hour, but none of them hold a candle to the Mardek games. These games make me want to turn every stone even if there was no badges on it, which says a lot for me and most other Kongregate users who feel the same. Can't wait to play all the future chapters.

Pseudelonewolf is very close to releasing his new Mardek (mobile game now and has quite a lot changes, but I still like it) - currently in Beta Phase, but you can register for it on his new website alorafane.com

So how about a challenge for the game in it's current state? Beat every boss in the game with a different character. This ensures a decent challenge in at least using everyone. Also, did everyone know that you can beat Karnos before you even complete a single temple? Imagine Legion (another quest possible before then) getting just about any technique possible from one of the superbosses, just to beat up some poor little guardian...

so, i was in Aeropolis and i had just visited the big Air temple. I see the priestess and i'm like, if this is Sharla's mother or something, and the Sharla says Hi, Mum! I TOTALLY CALLED IT!

@Submachine I am not sure if know about it, but the Lake Hag turned all those people to ice statues, not Elwyen. She has nothing to do with that curse. There is a game where you play from Steeles perspective called something like "Steele RPG". Play it and you know what happened (even if it is just guessing)

Quick question everyone, I've been trying to get updates on alora fane for a little over a month, but apparently its been shut down. Has he moved to another site? Is he doing alright? Just wondering because I like to keep tabs on him and his work.

I have personally been writing down ideas (such as weapons, dungeon maps, dialogue, e.t.c.) for the next few chapters for the past 6 months-or-so now. After analyzing the plot, I think I know what would have *probably* happened, but the only way to know is to ask Tobias. I doubt he would share about it, though, with people-after all, its already been 8 years since the game came out. He is currently suffering through depression. He once said on Fig Hunter that he would like to work with a small group of like minded individuals, but with his Social Anxiety, I don't think having a huge number of people working on it would be a great idea.

Ok SHOUT OUT TO ALL MARDEK FANS; PROGRAMMERS, PRO-GAMERS AND PEOPLE WHO ENJOYED THIS GAME:
The Creator of this game will not finish MARDEK 4 ever! WE NEED TO FINISH IT ON OUR OWN! WE SHOULD MAKE A GROUP WORKING ON THIS!
SOMEONE ALREADY MADE A STEELE SPIN-OFF AND IT IS PERFECT! IF ALL OF US WOULD WORK TOGETHER WE COULD CREATE OUR OWN MARDEK 4! I SWEAR I WOULD DO IT ON MY OWN AS I HAD ENOUGH FREE TIME BUT I NEVER PROGRAMMED ANYTHING NOT TALKING ABOUT FINISHING A WHOLE 50+ HOURS GAME!
WE SHOULD MAKE A GROUP WITH PEOPLE WHO PROGRAMM EVERYTHING, PEOPLE WHO CREATE THE DIALOGUES, PEOPLE WHO THINK ABOUT NEW SKILLS (PASSIVE AND ACTIVE SKILLS); PEOPLE WHO THINK ABOUT NEW EQUIPMENT; PEOPLE WHO
CAN DRAW THE CHARACTERS AND ALSO CREATE THE SPRITES AND PEOPLE WHO CREATE A STORY IN WHICH WE CAN FINISH MARDEK IN 5 CHAPTERS!
I F*CKING WANT TO DO THIS! THIS GAME IS GREAT AND IT SHOULDNT BE UNFINISHED! I WOULD BE READY TO WORK ON THIS WITH ALL OF YOU!

@konakai4 I'm quite serious about it, I think it would be a great idea to complete the series. Getting Tobias to work on it as well could help with his depression, by doing something that he used to love doing.

Been a mardek fan for years now and it's still the best RPG flash I've ever played. It's like playing the FF series all over again. When's the next chapter coming out?

I'd like to see the armour I wield, so if thats not too hard, please make the armour visible!
By the way, Pseudolonewolf, this game is perfect, and its amazing how you made this game alone!

Game is good, but the only bad part is when in battle and you miss-click z instead of x because it makes you skip you're turn. but overall one of the best rpg games.

Some tips for winning at this game;
* DO NOT screw with the warport security guards. They're almost as scary as real-life airport security guards, except slightly less creepy.
* It IS possible to heal and buff enemies. Do NOT do that, unless you're doing it to a weak enemy for training purposes.

Pseudolonewolf, I thought it was a difficult thing for you topping the standards you have set for yourself with Mardek I and II. I thought wrong. Clearly what you have on hand is a winner that is single-handedly responsible for the destruction of a great many productive hours belonging to a growing army of fans. Big game publishers these days should take a leaf out of your notebook. The point to a game is that it should first and foremost, beyond all other considerations, ENTERTAIN. Failing to do that, means that the game is just a poorly designed one. Even as I type this comment, I'm anxiously waiting for the game to load up on screen; something that I have not felt or done in ages since I was a kid. It would appear that your sacrificed design hours were not in vain. In a nutshell? Well done.

This is the best web game I've ever played. Probably because it feels more like a console game - and a classic one in that matter - than a flash game. I'd like to congratulate the developer both on making a fantastic rpg and on writing some insanely fun dialogue, and on the overall effort, which for sure wasn't small.

Collecting inconveniently placed crystals, fighting annoying recurring enemies, sitting through dialogue scenes with characters that have funny accents, and loads of sexual puns. All things that make this game worth every second of game play. 5/5

Badges would be nice. Frankly, the MARDEK series deserves more that a measly 5/5. It deserves a 10/5. Cannot wait for MARDEK 4: The Awesome Continues.

Main differences: Mardek has no ATB gauge, which is exclusive to Final Fantasy. Legend of Zelda has no reactions. Kingdom Hearts (2) is not turn-based. All RPGs seem like each other on the exterior, but, like hybrid cars, they're all different on the inside. So stop just calling it bad, without even playing it, and during a fit of anger at losing to a boss (I lost unfairly to Moric, do you see me hating Pseudolonwolf for that, no you don't) so stop. I mean it. Stop. (stare of 1,000 banshees time!)

I can never think of the airport in the same way... if I say the guard is unattractive, a 60000hp light monster pops out.......... wth?

best flash game series on the web. Sonny and the Arkandian games are no match to Mardek. Can't wait till Mardek 4 comes out. 5 stars just by listening to the music.

...And, well, 8 years on, I finally got all the badges and finished the series. Hopefully the game never gets taken down from Kong, but if it does, I'll still be content.

It makes me sad that Mardek 4 won't happen and that Mardek is being rebooted with an emphasis, anthropomorphic characters, and spirituality and emotions instead of knights and magic. If you followed the creators blog about a year after the release of Mardek 3 you would have noticed that the fanbase was harassing him for Mardek 4 and he was drained so he wanted to branch out to other games. You could really see the stress pile on him, especially when he and his girlfriend broke up. It almost seems like he had a mental breakdown and the only way he could get through with it was to focus on positivity and that reflects in the reboot.

Hats off to you, Pseudolonewolf, for making such an amazing RPG for all of us to enjoy. I cannot even begin to imagine how long it would've taken you to program this game, with the easy-to-use and organized engine, great dialogue, amazing storyline, detailed monsters, and great music that perfectly fit the theme. The intricate stories and details woven into the humorous and clever lines only enhanced the already incredible experience. Even though many other comments have said similar things about this work of genius, I think that this game is worth all the praise that it is getting with a more innovative plot and structure than games put out by massive corporations. I don't know how you managed this feat but I am glad that you did because I've grown to love the game. I would give you a 10/5 but since I can't, I'll just have to settle for 5/5. Great work!
