This. Game. Is. Awesome. All this has been said before, but it bears repeating. The fighting system has been streamlined since the first two games and is now easy to use while not being strategically boring. Characters are well developed and involve you personally in the game; they make you care about the good guy winning. The plot is stupendous, providing hours of gameplay without once slackening the pace (even without the sidequests, which deserve a sentence of their own). More importantly, perhaps, the plot is *interesting,* which is more than I can say for many "awesome" RPG's I've played. The music, composed specifically for this game by the developer, fits the mood of every dungeon or area without becoming overbearing or too noticeable. If the game is the melody, the music is the harmony, providing enhancing yet subtle accompaniment. I cannot stress enough how AWESOME this game is. PLAY IT!

Coming back to this game after so long... Lost my save file but this game is definitely worth starting over.
Mardek is better than most paid RPG games.

Mardek RPG 3 is a great example of the ridiculous amount of polish a game can have, even when developed by a small flash developer. I put this game in the ranks of the best golden age SNES RPG's, such as Chrono Trigger, FF3 (6), and the Lufia series. I mean this game just looks and feels amazing with alot of depth. Its been 3 years and its still in my opinion the best flash game.

By the way, if you wanted to ever defeat the security demon (It's incredibly rewarding; took my party from 19/25/21/18 to 21/27/23/21 and the after-fight dialogue is hilarious), note that you can only do it on your fourth warp or earlier. My party was Gloria/Elwyen/Solaar/Mardek. Gloria cast Null Air, Mardek cast Morality Block and Shield (all on everyone). Elwyen used Ballad of Balance (Goznor Magic Shop, secret shop area) to prevent normal attacks from killing everyone, and Solaar normally hit him with Viper Fang (Lifewood treasure chest, with a Rogue Fairy trapped in the chest it's in) and the Poison+20% reaction. Solaar Spirit Grafted whenever anyone needed mana/power/whatever and attacked whenever poison "ran out". Poison deals 3000 a turn, and it heals 100 a turn. Unfortunately, you get a Gold Warport Pass for defeating it, so you can't do it again (But you get to keep the original ticket! Extra plot item! Hooray!)

This game is phenomenal. I was blessed to be a beta tester, and my save game file there is over 30 hours, even without more than half of the secret areas and tasks unlocked. This game is, as I've said a lot on fighunter, basically a console game, given it's length, depth, and attention to detail. It really is a flash masterpiece, and it is worth the wait. Congratulaions, Pseudolonewolf, on this achievement. I hope you all like it as much I did. I have yet to hear a real negative review from a fellow beta tester.
Also, be warned, the plot is really levels beyond the plots of Mardeks 1 and 2, especially towards the final climatic end. Much more depth was put into it and the moral repercussions of the events of the game, making me (and hopefully other players) very genuinely concerned with the way events will unfold later in the series. You can press left (or right when targeting your own party) to target all foes (or allies), instead of a single one, with some spells. Especially handy for the Null spells. Took me one and a half playthrough to figure that out.

Back to playing this game. After 7 years it still has small nuances and easter eggs that I never found before. For example, if you go to the back of Goznor, where the entrance to the sewers is, a role-playing zombie kid will have a conversation with you, and he'll explain that he's role playing as Sonny from another RPG game of the same name. 10/10 New surprises around every damn corner

Man, I gotta say this is probably the best flash series I've ever played, this might as well have been on the SNES. Pseudolonewolf, you are awesome. Can't wait till Chapter 4.

This is my first ever comment on the site. I've been playing on Kongregate for a couple months now, but this is the first game that absolutely deserves for me to come in, stand up, and make a statement. This was a great game. That barely begins to describe it, but this is a true flash masterpiece. 6/5 dude! Ignore the haters. Small people need to make others feel smaller so they don't seem so small by comparison. You - and your great game - are bigger and better than that. Ignore em. If they don't like it, their loss. Keep up the fantastic work! =)

I'm just curious. Is it possible to get the Rusty Armor and Rusty Helmet (the default items on Mardek) if you imported your save from Chapter 2?

Oh @deadlygazebo, your comment leads me to wonder:
Since you can obtain all 3 crystals with only 3 points on your warport pass, and then presumably accept Smalls' offer of fast travel back to Goznor (unless that's unavailable if you don't yet have a gold pass?), then is it possible to fight the security demon with just Mardek and Elwyen when travelling to Aeropolis to see the play? This is interesting because this is at a point where you are otherwise unable to fight any battles. Hm... maybe I'll have to play through again and deliberately use the Warport as little as possible, and then maybe I'll see...

If you're trying to grind up infrequently used characters up to comparable levels, I have the most efficient way to do it.
Equip them with an elemental weapon, and have them attack Mardek while equipped to absorb that element. They will get more XP per hit than anything other than grinding on Pixies in the Pixie Spring in the Dream Wood.

Excellent game, really. I spent all in all around 150-200hr on this; had to replay once. It's incredible how well made this is, and hah that one dream stone, where Elwyen plappers about Deugan and repeatedly calls him "Deugal", "Douglas", "or whatever that guy is called" - that had me in tears ^^ I had to play this all the way to ~99,5% completion, thx for this great game psudo.. psuedo,. or whatever this guy's called. ôo ---PS only downfall is that [PROFANITY]ing warport and all that running around. I'd have wished to loot some 7-mile-boots at some point to upgrade running speed xP

god i love Elwyen. In the necromancers lair she gains music that does about 130 dmg UNTYPED!!! goodbye pixies and the likes :) (and no mana cost!)

Unfortunately i did not grow up in the nes or snes time frame because then i would be playing with nostalgia instead of just finding the best game ever! I can't wait till Pseudolonewolf starts on mardek 4 so he can get that much closer to finishing his 8 chapter goal (not sure if that is accurate anymore considering i found that piece of info on the chapter one discription and he is diligently working on one of his other projects at the moment). can't wait but make sure it's as good but maybe not quite as long as chapter 3 and great job on the art your working on Pseudolonewolf may the games you make forever prosper.

Well worth the years of wait. And, given how much it has improved since the previous chapter, I'd be willing to wait another three years for the next chapter, for sure! Just one thing: it was fine to do for the first to chapters, since they were short, but please don't "revamp" all the previous chapters with each new one - they consume enough time playing through as is - for someone like me, who has to do everything in a game, I'd have to start over each time, and that would, though it might be fun, be horrible.

I agree with the troubleshooting thread possibility (+1'd), though I have to say that I have found no bugs that would have prevented me from completing the game, or at least ones that would be very annoying.
Another note: there was some controversy with the Miasmal Chalices (do I remember the name correctly?) not being acquirable later in the game. A lot of people made comments, and the encounter rates were almost immediately increased for temples that are cleaned.

the fact that this game is on the 7th page of kongregate is an embarassment to the kong community. this game would easily be marketable as a console rpg (considering that it is better than most of the trash that gets labeled 'rpg' these days) and is clearly the single greatest game on kongregate (a website that has games made by actual game developing companies (eg: outernauts)). the point i'm trying to make here is this: props to pseudolonewolf, you are truly an artist among people who just want to make a cheap buck.

By far the best flash game I've ever played. I've never spent over 40 hours on a single flash game before, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I am even choosing to play MARDEK over games that I have paid actual money for. Pseudolonewolf you are amazing and you have almost ruined all other flash games because if 5/5 is the highest the rating can go, I don't think any other game deserves to be on the same level as this.

I just made a small but significant update... Apparently an ally later in the game was unable to properly join your party, so it'd be a good idea to refresh to make sure you're playing the latest version...

i would just like to say that though i play a few rpg games i don't play many because of how long they can be and much of it involves running back and forth all the time. but this series, well it certainly caught my attention and i have to say i love it very much. i know that pseudolonewolf must be busy so i won't harasses him with it, but i can't wait for the forth installment.

I have not finished, but one thing that I like is how there is so much extra content. For example, Meraeador's inventions, blacksmith's weapons, and side conversations, like introducing members of your party to Mardek's mother, which can get pretty funny, what with the talking dog and the reptillian dude.

Thank you for such a great game, and a great series! This is such an improvement from last chapter in every way. I loved the background from the dreamstones, and the variety of party members is great too, although ever since I got them I've stuck to Mardek-Sharla-Gloria-Zach, I tried them all and I'll try other combinations.
About the game itself something seems a bit off with the spell mechanics. For example, healing spells are reduced by M.Barrier (this DOES make sense and can easily be bypassed with items). Also when I cast any beneficial spell, the reaction skills are applied on your party member, this wasn't a problem until Sharla got the "M+Stun 20%" and when I tried to apply the null air buff to the entire party... half of them were parallyzed as a result. I don't know if this is the way it's intended but, in any case, whenever I'm casting something on my party I don't react anymore :P
Obviously 5/5, and I'll be looking forward to your future games (Mardek 4?). Keep it up!
