Strategy:
first try to upgrade calvary damege, then buy some decent calvary units (either the macdonian lancer or companian calvary). next try to buy calvary tactics research.
Now, at the begging of every battle, be sparring with your units, only send them where the enemy are, wait till the last second to send them. try to save enough points to send 5 calvary, then send then across in a wave. If your leadership is high enough, by the time the calvary reach the other side, you should have enough points for another wave, do until you conquor the enemy

For those of you that read the history lesson here is a cheat for you. After a turn spend all your money on the most expensive unit spend nothing on research. then refresh the game when it reloads your money will be reset and you will keep the troops as well. does not work for research items.. but you can buy 99 of Companion Cavalry then sell them and use the money for cheaper troops and research items, have to keep refreshing though. You can also right click the game and hit 'back' then right click again then hit 'forward' so you can keep buying troops quickly. IMPORTANT!!! If you use the right click shortcut before you play for real CLOSE your browser window and open the game in a new window. if you dont when you play you will be attacked by all the opponents troops at the same time! Once you understand this trick there are many tricks that are born from it but you will have to do some of the work yourself! :) Have fun!

Great game and lots of fun! 5/5. I am slightly disappointed of the historical inaccuracy of the map especially the lack of Israel. Let me say I am not jewish nor do I wish to start a political debate. But in the time of the greeks Israel was an extremely strong city state and one of the few places that alexander professed to love in his conquests and therefore left un-plundered. Though many years after alexanders death the holiday Hanukah (hope i spelled that right) came when Israel expelled the greeks from Jerusalem after they sacked their holy temple. The sources are weak, but if the legends are true the Israelis pulled of a crazy lopsided victory beating 3 legions of greek infantry with a handful of troops. Having so much history between them I would have liked to see what you would have done. But I digress... Great game enjoy it immensely.

I think its not about taking proper provinces, more important is to master battle tactics, use proper units against enemy and never attack, just defend and kill units easily. In hard - 8.25 yr (first game on hard, third at all). I buy just 3 new units, first hypaspists, then silver shield guard (they are absolutely great against northern provinces with lots of cavalry and last companion cavalry - they can win most battles alone... you can consider buying archers - they work really well against infantry, but its one more kind of unit to upgrade.

bobertlyer's hint is actually good specially the 3rd hint.. and just adding something its better to get about 6-8 lands for bigger income, since you already have greece and macedonia so just conquer Illyria, Dacia, Thrace, Scythia, Lydia, Phrygian.

Wow..Once u got the most expensive unit (Cavalry companion) its like ur invincible, just stack units behind it and it will burst through enemy lines like there was nothing.

This game is pretty fun but to make it funnier, when the enemy attacks, instead of them just taking the land automatically, there should be battle. An npc fights for u on that land and then who wins gets the land.

after a long while, the enemy will stop making armies and attacking you. instead, king Darious III will show up as the leader

Wow this is a really good game. I felt like i had my whole army and could conquer the world, kinda like Genghis Khan game, except this one is better

as travdog said, just get the best cavalry (companion cavalry) as first step and only use these to fight, you'll win in no time :)

It's actually somewhat esay. The cavalary is REALLY strong. So upgrade money making and then go straigth to the best cav and spearmen. Upgrade armor when u can.

Follow up to my Macedonian Scout Calvary comment - if you just overrun them all the time with calvary, they can't stand, and eventually lose on moral - makes the game kinda boring, so I've developed no calvary, and worked on playing with just others. Developer needs to make a fix on the MSCs.

Easy to win even on son of zeus. Armies to have from beginning to end: 15 scout cavalry, 25 pikeman and 35 peltast. Let the enemy send troops first and just counter them, pikeman for cavalry, 1 or 2 peltast for infantry and cavalry for archers (sent in at the last second). Once your command builds up to like 150+, flood in the cavalry on different stratas. Easy win against any territory. Now the techs will help as you go. Dont spend money on new unit types except the pikeman and dont spend money on surgery or barracks. Focus on the 2 income techs, then command, and then attack and def for your 3 unit types. Done. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the strategy on the game 5/5.

Son of zeus mode in 5 years!! (taking 1 province each turn)
I used almost only cavalry, except for Cilicia and Dacia, were i used also javelinmen to take the infantry.
The charge ability is very powerfull if u use it well.
Ask me for more detailed strategy.

encountered a sound bug randomly but the game is still playable, i can play without it
As mentioned earlier by others the battles need a pause button
i'm curious why when a field army takes two territories the first one is defencless.
