Played this game before and rage quit. I wish I hadn't. It is much better than I thought and I didn't know that it was based on the tale of Orpheus. Usually these pixel games feel so much better in terms of story than games that worry too much about graphics. I'm very glad I came back to this.

Wow... Well:
After more deaths than the underworld should be able to hold, I beat the game..
Should there have been more to the ending? Yes.
Should beating the game have a hard medal?
Doubly yes.
Did I force myself to stay awake the whole night until I beat it?
Sadly, yes.

just finished the game ... i see the entire game like the hell that he must go trough to ...not forget ... but live with fact that his beloved one is no more ... and the unique solution to this ... let a part of himself die ... or he would be condemned to live with the ghost of his love

Beautiful story, it actually made me think about it a while. Y'know, those games that aren't shooters or mind tricks. Just a simple game that makes you think about life. 5/5
Also the fact that my right arrow key is broken :D

No idea if it is my computer or the game, but for a platformer which demands exact timing and cares about positioning the controls are incredibly dodgy.
Jumping twice in quick succession, and jumping while running both seem unreliable.

Oh, man, this game blew my mind. I didn't understand why it was called "Don't Look Back" until I defeated the big boss and realized it was the tale of Orpheus. Smooth gameplay, awesome pixel graphics, haunting ending, and a really satisfyingly hard challenge, to boot.

:) The Fact That He Took His Mind To A Place Where He Knows His Love One Is Still With Him And Will Always Be, The Fact He Couldn't Turn Back Because She Was The Past And That He Will Never See Her Again But She Will Always Be In His Heart Forever And Never Forgotten <3

5/5 game. Overall well-done! As to the story, I know it. The gun represents his Harp, and this was the tale of a Bard.
This actually was a mythological reference. I don't remember the name, but it was about the most famous bard of the time, and he was so great, no one could resist the beautiful tunes of his instrument. He calmed Cerberus with his melody, even drove him to sleep, as well as ease the souls of Hades domain. Passed through, and begged Hades for the life of his loved one. Persephone, Hades Stockholm-syndrome wife, agreed. So Hades said "Don't look back until you leave, or I'll take her from you."
We don't know what makes him look back, but as the story goes, he does...

NINE years after getting the badges, here we met again... I never forgot this game actually. Some times I just remembered (that game where you couldn't turn back was great). Now in 2018 it looks even better. Great sound, great art (!), everything is so well made. I wonder if a game like this was released for NES or Atari back then?! It would be a classic nowadays. Great job, five stars. And it can look a bit tricky one some screens, but it's not that hard.

I heard about this game and I really wanted to play it. Right from the outset I was getting shivers down my back, I really appreciate games like this. This game in particular is great because I've had day dreams where I go into the underworld and rescue people who have had a great presence in my life but have died. I agree with gasman86's ending, and I hope the developer realizes the kind of audience he is touching and makes more games like this. Really great 5/5

The ending makes perfect sense to me... of course I'm a ghost with the number of times I've died in this platformer! :)

This game was a good challenge. It would of been frustratingly hard if you didn't get to retry at the start each screen you failed on. Fair play to you for that

@daexion Oh good god. Here you have a really awesome short experience and you can't sit down and play the first 5 minutes.

Story is actually about Orpheus, not Oedipus. Sorry normally I wouldn't correct such a thing, but Oedipus is famous for marrying his mother and committing incest, so I feel like I needed to clarify. Orpheus' wife, Eurydice, had died from a venomous bite from a snake. Orpheus bravely traveled to the underworld to get her back, and was the first and only person to move the God of the Underworld, Hades, by playing his music. He allowed Orpheus to have Eurydice back on one condition - he couldnt look back at her unless BOTH were outside of the Underworld. There are a few variations on the story but the most common one is, as soon as he had stepped outside the Underworld, he anxiously looked back only to see her fade away.
I really love Greek mythology and this was an amazing interpretation and representation of such a moving story. Thank you. It's because of games like these I'm going to seriously consider donating game developers...once I actually get a job and paypal, that is...

icesoul56's comment this is the story of a greek myth: Orpheus was a skilled minstrel who was to marry Eurydice when she suddenly died. So he traveled into the underworld and convinced Hades with his music to let her go. Hades agreed on the condition that Orpheus could never look at Eurydice-who would follow behind him-until he was out of the underworld.
Orpheus and Eurydice began their travel above, but Orpheus began to fear that he was tricked. So when they were close, he looked behind him and saw his love before she returned to the underworld.
