I had to look up Taniwha after seeing the word it in "Anika's Odyssey: Land of the Taniwha" which is the game's full title: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taniwha. So, I guess that purple lake creature is the Taniwha? Given it only plays a brief role in the game I don't know why the game was named after it. /shrug Also, be sure to scratch the giant man's back and give a kiss to the mountain after it scares the eagle away. :)

I think it's a metaphor for growing up. In the beginning, you can only hold either the bunny (her childhood) or the bucket (maturity) at one time. As she works, her childhood slips away, and she must go out, and free her mind, and use her imagination to get herself back. There are plenty of obstacles in the way, all probably metaphorical, and so she gets to the top of the mountain, and who's there to help her? Her dad, of course. And so, she gets her childhood back, learns not to antagonize her dad, even if he is just a disembodied arm/mountain, and at the end, be able to hold BOTH the bunny AND the bucket at the same time. In other words, she's reconciled her childhood with maturity. Yay!

Finally beat it. Lol the ending. *Anika jumps off cliff and flies* -Meanwhile, at their house. Dad: "Gee whats taking her so long? Who knows what crazy imagination adventure she is having now. Next thing I know, she'll sprout wings! Hmm that sounds like her a the door. *Opens* Anika: "Papa! here's the water! And look! I have wings!" *Flaps wings up* Dad: "What the..."

What a sweet, wonderful game this is! It perfectly captures the vivid imagination of a young child sent to perform a mundane task and the places her mind might wander along the way.

Nice graphics but the moving camera is annoying and the killer is the complete lack of problem-solving at all in this game. It might feel like you're solving problems but, actually, you're just finding the next thing to click on. Meh.

1st she kicks a litte ugly guy in the ass, 2nd she jumped on someones head, whose was sleeping, 3rd she helped a man who tried to eat her and 4th she kissed a stoned man. Lesson #1: Dont Do Drugs kids!

At first, I cringed at the 'amazing' parenting skill, the 'wise' decision to bring along a toy for a simple chore and putting it down, and the three critters being jerks. But then things took a turn and become a lot cuter.
Apparently, apart from a misguided eagle, every living creature out there is more helpful and caring than the Anika's parents. Makes me feel like the electric fence is to keep her IN rather than to keep monsters OUT. Which, come to think about it, gives her showing her new-found wings at the very end an entirely new meaning. Meh, I'm probably overthinking again.
Entertaining and cute little game with a lovely atmosphere.

What an absolutely delightful quick game! I am ensorcelled by this charming and beautiful adventure. The art style is delicious and the characters are each unique and wonderful. This girl is so brave and is so used to these mythical creatures that she gives them back scratches and kisses! I love it so much. Even the characters that are implied like the gnomes living in the mushrooms are a delight and there is so much subtle story that really makes this world feel fleshed out and real! Thank you for this, great job team!
