Komen squaterfall

Was enjoying the game - playing it pretty steadily for the past week. applying for the first time after the new update and pretty frustrated. Now I have a total of a 5% bonus to one category (armour) after investing that much time? Perhaps I am missing something, but how does the new update reward the time I have spent? Willing to stand corrected, but disappointed right now.
