There's a knife on the bar right next to the keycard frame, and I can't use that, or the broken TV to break the glass? Why can't I grab a chair to reach the fan in the bathroom? *frustrating*

Nobody knows what any of the spells do. There's nothing to spend gold on. You really need to explain what's going on here.
Gold is only used to upgrade minions to level 3 (if the upgrade is available).. Click on the (?) button (top left corner) then click on any spell you need to know about..

How the hell did I accidentally change the text to Japanese???
There's a language setting in options. Hit escape in game, and the change the last option with < and > next to it (6th option from the top) to change the language, even if you can't read the text, this will get you back to english :P .

refreshed the page due to buggy save popup (URI too long?) and now my adventure guy doesn't ever attack. He gets hit, but he won't attack.
are you attacking or putting idle mode on?
