Four years. Kong trying to be FB defaced this profile even more than it already was, and I don't give enough of a damn to fix it. Looks like I'm missing 92 badges. ______________________________Three Year Update___________________________ '                                                                                        After 3 years, I have 47 badges left, including two from the last day of year 2, for a total of only three accumulated during the year. The low point of 45 badges left on June 30th (last day, before the UA2 badges were added) is likely to stand for a while... In other news, text formatting in profiles STILL sucks donkey balls. ______________________________Two Year Update______________________________                                                                                                                     It has now been two years, and I still have 68 badges to clear. Of these, 11 accumulated during the year, 22 are leftovers from year 1,* and the other 35 are from before I registered. The most notable difference since last year is not in the number of badges, though, but in the tools Kong has introduced to further break down these numbers without risking a headache.                                                                                                                       Action badges: Missing 25, five from year 2, and seven from year 1.                                                                                                                    Multiplayer: Missing three, two of which were introduced on June 30th 2010, and are basic endurance badges. The last one is for Kongai, which I may or may not ever attempt.                                                                                                                 Shooter: Missing 21, including two from this year and six from last.                                                                                                                     Adventure and RPG: Only one badge missing, from this year.                                                                                                                    Sports and racing: Missing two impossible badges: Vector runner and Dolphin Olympics.                                                                                                                    Strategy and Defense: Missing 10, one from this year and four from last.                                                                                                                     Puzzle: Missing three badges, all from year 1.                                                                                                                 Music: Missing three Super Crazy Guitar Maniac Deluxe badges and nothing else.                                                                                                                 Clearly, I am much better at games that give me time to think about my next move.                                                                                                                   In terms of difficulty, eight of the badges are medium, 41 are hard and 19 are impossible. You can tell I went mostly for the low-hanging fruit there. I also made some effort to keep the new badges accumulation in check, as evidenced by the fairly low number of year 2 badges that have survived. For a long time that number was kept at eight, but the recent proliferation of multiplayer grinders has made it hard to keep up. Ironically, the MMO badges end up falling, but some moronic action games that got badges in the meantime could not receive the attention they did not deserve, and caused me to fall behind. The year 2 survivors are, in order of introduction:                                                                                                                 Moneyseize (Impo). This game embodies everything that is wrong with platformers: absurd difficulty, more spikes than a medieval torture chamber, and the requirement that the player perform 20 pixel-perfect jumps in a row in order to get the last few coins in some levels. Having said that, I must also admit that it can be quite fun, and that the learning curve is actually climbable. Being able to go further and further into a level through sheer perseverance until you finally reach the exit one day by an unbelievable stroke of luck is one of the great satisfactions of this game. As for the badge, for a long time, I let this one slide, thinking I would never complete it. Little by little, I have whittled at the various stupidly hard levels and I have now completed every level except 40 and SX. So, yay me, I'm halfway done!                                                                                                                  Dress Up My Thing-Thing Arena 3 (Medium my arse). Having played every installment in the series since the very first one, I must admit that the game has steadily improved with each iteration. The author has introduced a greater variety of designs and colors, and now there are options even if scars and bandages aren't your thing. Too bad the shooting minigame sucks, and the badge is based on it.                                                                                                                   Warfare 1944 (Hard). I wish I could say I kept this badge unearned so I could take it as an example of horrendous game design and wave it as a cautionary tale to warn others not to go there but, frankly, it's not the worse game in its genre. Sure, it's bugged to hell, completely uninteresting, boring to play, and its 'hard' difficulty setting offers nothing above the regular option, making it useless, but that could be said of a lot of other crappy games. I'm not sure I'll ever force myself through the hard mode. I think I have two or three missions down, but really, it's not worth the skull-numbing pain.                                                                                                                     Epic Battle Fantasy 2 (Impo). This game confirms the tentative rule I proposed based on the Epic War series: Games with 'epic' in their title are not. But hey, it has jiggly tits, so it must be alright, right? Wrong.                                                                                                                     Agony: The Portal (Hard). I'm missing the combo-based badge for this game, and for good reason: combos are useless. Maybe one day I'll go back and force myself to learn the stupid combo system so I can get this badge. Maybe.                                                                                                                   Vector Conflict (Hard). Now here is a badge I should have taken. The game is interesting, fun and somewhat manageable, even in hard mode. What makes it a pain is the fact that the player does not get to choose when, or even whether, to save the game. Since resources are very limited and a screwed-up level can get you stuck, I'll need to go back to this game one day and do it properly, with a pen and paper, taking notes on every wave of every level. More likely, maybe one day I'll stumble upon a well-written walkthrough for this game and give it another try.                                                                                                                    Elona Shooter (Impo): I hate this game. It's incredibly hard in the beginning, then it plays itself for the next 40 levels or so, then it keeps playing itself except once in a while a statistical fluke happens and you die. That's no biggie in normal mode, but I'm not subjecting myself to this crap in hardcore mode. I don't see myself ever getting this badge. I don't think there's enough boredom in the Universe for that to happen.                                                                                                                    Tower of Greed (Impo): I don't know why 500,000 coins was chosen as the limit for this badge. Could have been a million or five, it wouldn't make a difference. I think the most I ever got out of the tower at once was 100k or so. Coupled with the overwhelming feeling that one is being bent over and violated by the way the game drops monsters on top of the player once in a while, I don't think I want to spend too much time on this badge.                                                                                                                     Chaos Faction 2 (Hard). Piece of crap.                                                                                                                    Sacred Seasons 2 MMORPG (medium and hard). Two endurance badges for a crap game I played maybe 20 minutes when it came out, and the badges were awarded on the last day of my year. Tough luck. These two will fall eventually, it's only a matter of overcoming the revulsion and wading through the crap. Hopefully the player base will be as friendly as the fellows I met while playing the first installment. It would not save the game itself, but it would make the experience less traumatizing.                                                                                                                    Badge of the Year: The distinction goes to "The Man with the Golden Coins", the Moneyseize Impossible badge. Challenging, yet fair, balanced, memorable, this badge is likely to be the one I'm most proud of, assuming I ever manage to earn it!                                                                                                                  *: I've decided to include Aliens Must Die in year 1, since it was introduced after the first game for which I got the card, even though that's not necessarily indicative of the AMD badges being introduced on or after July 1st, 2008. I guess the simplest way to solve the question would be to get the damn badge already...                                                                                                                   -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------                                                                                                                    ~~~ Year 1 update ~~~                                                                                                                   After 1 year, I still have 92 badges to clear, including 30 (or 31, not sure when "Aliens Must Die" got badges) that accumulated during this first year.                                                                                                                   -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------                                                                                                                  Low point: 45 badges left on June 30, 2011.
