If I wanted to do something like that, I’d take the smoothest table ever, and slightly deform its surface to bulge upwards. Then I’d get a thousand matches, and place them all separately on that surface, juust in the distance that I can’t touch one without touching the other…

If I wanted to do something like that, I’d take the smoothest table ever, and slightly deform its surface to bulge upwards. Then I’d get a thousand matches, and place them all separately on that surface, juust in the distance that I can’t touch one without touching the others. To this I’d then add two tables table left and right of me with idiots sitting at them that constantly bumb the tables, scream, trample the wooden floor and breathe way too strongly in my direction.
My goal would then be to align all those matches perfectly parallel, without moving everything else every time I touch one to move it. And quickly enough before one of the idiots rattles the table again.
All for the purpose of making some tiny volatile completely pointless number somewhere to go up.
… or some other similar torture device. :P
Or spoken as a game designer:
• It needs a goal; a purpose; a reason to do this; … a point.
• It needs a way bigger reward to look forward to and to get, than “bigger number”. (I can just go into IDA and change the value in live memory if I really want to. It’d probably be more fun too. ;)
• It doesn’t emotionally resonate at all and is more than clinical. (Probably mostly due to lack of any aesthetics or story of any kind.)
• I bet you can handle more than minimalism. What are you so afraid of? Maybe you need a big reward and some emotional influence too, to face a bigger challenge. ;)
In conclusion: Follow your heart, I guess… :) It’s what art is about.
