Really great game. I generally love retro-vania games and this one is no exception. A few things though: i would have found pleasant to be able to jump with the 'up' key rather than the 'a' key -- more generally configurable controls are always welcome. The soundtrack also gets a bit old pretty quick; adaptive tunes would have been nice. Last, the exclamation marks do not exactly match the active areas which is not only weird but also sometimes frustrating (it seems there's a 20px difference, more or less). Still 5/5.
this was the best set we could come up with for the actions/movements we wanted to put in, but there's been enough feedback asking for configurable controls so i'll try and get that implemented in future releases.

Excellent mood for the story. The way the title screen appeared added to the overall feel of the atmosphere, some thing rare in a flash game. I loved the style and feel of the game all the way through. 5/5

Okay, I've played this over and over again, and I finally think I knw why. I got the same feeling of excitement and adventure when I played 'Cave Story'. So I don't know if its just me or soes enyone else get that feeling from playing this?

first boss: wait for it to fire all projectiles and drop from the ceiling. pause game. wait for projectiles to disappear. proceed to hit boss. repeat

that first boss pissed me off so much i just remember thinking if only there was a way i could hit the spikes to drop on him. then about two seconds later i realized i was oh wow

-There are some bugs in the game
-gameplay is awesome especially boss fight
-no changing quality button
-nice twist plot I even thought that they had turned the daughter into mutant by accident.
-There is something the kidnapper didn't tell the main character.
-the ending is they found plant that immune to pollution? It might be something more than that!
-This game needs map.

A rather good game, the 8-bit game type along with the metroid feeling made this a wonderful experience. The plot of the game also was pretty good, and the gameplay proved to be awesome. At first I thought "okay... where's the map?", but the whole playthrough was easy at the end. They should really make more games like this one, and for the creator of it, I'm giving 5/5!

Decent game. Thank you for adding hint section, I used it once or twice. Seems like a fusion of Contra and Metroid with an apocalyptic twist. Overall, pretty good!

I'm guessing the 3 people in the secret house (whose character portraits are quite defined) are the creators of this game?

A great example of the retro platformer, nice and responsive, clean graphics, good game mechanics, decent story line (although not exactly an epic, it did the job), well designed levels, good character progression, open world "feel" to the levels, not overly short or long, and last but certainly not least, fantastic 8bit-style music.
5 out of 5 from me :)

that is exactly what a boss fight should be like. no massive amount of shooting to lower the health. just intelligent use of the environment to destroy a special monster. if its just a matter of shooting it down, what makes it different from the other monsters?

the first boss, when he shoots the slime balls at you, press p to pause and wait for them to go away, a little trick if you're having problems

xzxzccc: The main character is always called a protagonist, and the one who opposes the protagonist is an antagonist. The two movies you listed are examples of Villain Protagonists.

Fabulous game!!! Very nostalgic, and well put together. The difficultly of the bosses is a bit silly..but that just makes ya work all the hard to beat them. New fave game. 5/5 ^_^

Still one of the best free games around. Design, soundtrack and gameplay are spot-on with a fun amount of eastereggs. I really wish they'd do more games together, but alas, it should not come to pass. *sadface intensifies*

So I'm in a post-apocalyptic world where almost everyone's sick. Then I blow up the main generator for a medical research facility. Feels bad man.

A simple tale of a man in a terrible situation who will go to great lengths to help the hope of the future. Liked how it lacked an obvious villain: "Gray and Grey morality" isn't easy to incorporate into a game (as anyone who's played Assassins' Creed knows), and this one handled it perfectly. The abilities progress nicely...reminds me of Blaster Master, of all things...and are very satisfying when you get them. ("How do you like me NOW, freaks?") A few tricky spots but nothing especially painful, and the ending was satisfying in a minimalist, show-don't-tell way. One caveat: There should be some hint as to how to beat the first boss, as it's VERY easy to miss. There's a similar concession after you destroy the underwater barrier with a grenade; this should have one as well. 4/5

Loved the game, but like some others, I experienced issues with frame rate and very sticky controls. The controls were so unresponsive in places I frequently ran off platforms to my death and utterly failed to double jump despite hammering the key over and over. I imagine my low end laptop compounded the problem. After the wall jump upgrade, inputting commands barely worked at all for me and I couldn't progress any further. Great setting and well done game. I just wish the controls weren't so spotty for me.

I must agree with some other users; this really gave me the feel of a metroid game. Then later, it resembled Contra a little when I got a gun and grenades. This definitely was very well tested by the dev(s), well polished, and thought out. Cheers, Asvegren... 5 stars for such hard work to produce a satisfying game :)

I killed the final boss without a single damage. Checked the "?" button. it said - watch out. I thought there will be a shitton of enemies or another boss. But then this guy came... And i got killed. LoL'd so bad after this!
