Even though I have completed a few lines (2 at most single session) in this game, I still attest to the point that getting lines in Hell Tetris is hard as hell (no pun intended). The key to success is to try using the blocks you have available to make a "flat surface" to make line-getting a bit easier, but getting there is the hard part. You will always have to work for your lines. If you don't get any lines, don't feel bad; it is very difficult.
Thank goodness xkcd had such a genius idea of Tetris torture in the state of this, and that the creator of this game set aside some time to give us this kind of demonic entertainment. I would show my college friends the associated xkcd comic and they would be all like "WTF?".

Okay, somethings wrong with the piece despenser. I get 5 of the zigzag blocks in a row, then 6 3 angle pieces? Dafuq is this.

Years later, I just got an all-time highscore AND a tetris (4 lines at once with a bar) on the same day. I can now resume my life and other projects. I heard a few years ago about this "dating" game... time to give it a try. Where do I start?

Since I've held the record for long enough now, I can give you lot some clues:
1. You need a flat surface less than 9 blocks wide that will NEVER BREAK. This is the most difficult part.
2. Never put the S, Z, L or J pieces sideways, unless you really have to. the other part shifts when the other part is destroyed.
3. You can push the J L and I blocks against the wall and get some time to think.
4. Like in poker, you have to fold and quit most of your games. You'll know when things go wrong. But if you've got a lot of points, try to make a new flat surface and salvage what you've got!
5. While it's possible to get 4 lines at a time, you should only try 1 or max 2 lines at once. Otherwise the neat order you've been building will most certainly get destroyed.
I haven't played this in a while but I'd love a challenger to the 66 lines ;)
