MustardScroll, if you didn't notice, your starting money increases when you get more score and die, and you can upgrade things to like 3rd tier straight away without having to beat the bosses first

To get the Hard Badge (and 100% completion after FIVE 99% runs), I got all of the medals and level 10 so I had $3,615 to start.
At the beginning of the game, I upgrade the ship twice and buy the Level 4 Loot/Magnet and Level 3 Weapon. After the first boss, I bought the Level 4 Flag. Before the final boss, I sold the flag and the L3 Weapon and bought the Level 4 Speed and Level 4 Weapon. After the 3rd boss, I bought the next ship upgrade and the Level 4 Flag. 3 Final Bosses later, I had 30,000.

You should first max loot+magnet and after shipspeed. For the second boss buy some Damage and sell it after the boss. You will be able to get more then 20 000 money before (=score) before the third boss. Just focus on getting the boxes and try not to kill ships. For the 3rd boss sell all +loot/magnet and buy max dmg max speed and firerate. After the last boss sell firerate and buy magnet/loot again ... easiest way to get the 30k

My old high score was 17.9k, prior to beating the game. Then I blew through the final boss, killed loads of ships after, and almost killed him again, yet my score for that round was only 13k. Can someone explain to me how scoring works?

How the hell does it make sense that it takes me close to an hour to get past the second boss, when I'm able to not even be hit on the third boss?

To completely mute it, Click on the main screen and drag the bar all the way to the left. You have to drag to mute it all the way. +1 so people stop QQ'ing about it.

Strategy: Endurance is the name of game. Play a little and make sure you start with at least 2000 or so gold. Buy a better ship and two chest upgrades. The more time you play with both chests, the more money you get eventually. Then, as soon as you can, upgrade the ship once more and then buy the strongest cannon you can get. That will make you a money magnet capable of sustain some damage. Then, try to aim for the sails (forget the flags. Buy it at the end if you can) With the sails and the cannon, you can handle pretty much everithing the game throws at you. At last, get fire rate, sell the chest and get the pirate flag.

I'm really liking this game! It's kept my attention for 30 minutes (just got that medal), and I'm planning on playing until I beat the last boss.

Took out the final boss 4x in one run!
Post-Game Strategy for getting $30k Badge: lv. 4 Cannon + all 4 Flags. This gives the same total number of points, but it maxes out magnet and (most importantly) Weapon. You need high loot + magnet to hit that $30k goal and you really want maxed weapons to deal with the post-game waves.

Epic battle of final boss took 5 attempts to beat. After loudly exclaimig my victory, final boss comes back to life with a bvengeance and destroys me in 10 seconds....

to get "free gold from the lachhh pirate" you have to click out of the screen and wait for him to come in pause area and wait till he says ill give you some free gold and re click on screen and you get it
