Really improved from the last one! Very enjoyable. Agree that the hints shouldnt be available after they are irrelevant. I used 30 hints because I couldnt find the book! I respected the bamboo enough to look and not touch. My mistake! lol

I discovered the hint system due to the comments, but it can be pretty useless and confusing if you're further in. I don't think the hints should be there anymore if you have already found the item/done the action. Luckily I caught onto that (the lye was my only issue!), but if I hadn't I would have been so confused and mislead!!

I have appeased all the spirits but the game doesn't seem to end. I can't figure out what I haven't done. I have no objects left either.

Walkthrough 1/3: (Use the action/use button for all of this.) Press the intercom, and enter the house. Talk to the woman, take the key. Go up, and to the left. Enter the left door. Click the cups to the left and the green frame. Go back to the reception and click on the door. The combination is 1578, the year the house was built. Go inside and take the keycard. Use the keycard on the device next to the computer and pick it up again. Leave the room, and go up. Click the keycard reader to the right, and then go right. Go through the middle door. Click the pictures to note the year 1974. Next click the green jacket, take the key that falls out. Go back, then enter the right-most door. Take the carpet roll. Go outside the house, and one screen to the right. Click the wooden door and go inside the outbuilding. Click the water pipe, and take the rope and spanner. Go back outside and one screen to the right. Click the green car.

Walkthrough 2/3: Go back inside the house and go right. Go through the right door into the kitchen. Click the right door and pick up the vinegar. Go through the left door into the basement. Click the pipe to the left and take the wheel handle. Click the dark blue switch and pick it up. Go back outside of the house and go left. Click the arrow to the left to go to the orangery. Click the door, and enter the code 1974. Go inside, and click the green plant. Pick up the bamboo and the crowbar. Go back to the outhouse. Click the electrical thing to switch it off. Go outside, and go all the way to the right, then down. Click the pipe at the left, and then click the mire to the right and walk over it. Click the ash and take the tome. Go back to the front of the house. Back up one screen, and go right. Go down the fountain. Click the bottom rung, and go down. ake the statuette, then go further down. Click the remains and take the pendant.

Walkthrough 3/3: Go back inside the house and go left. Go through the left door and click the fireplace, then the statuette. Go through the revealed door. Click the right stone tablet. Go back two screens and now go through the right door. Click the frame to get the sheet music. Go back to the attic where you found the carpet roll. Click the pipe organ. Take the key and go through the door to the right to go to the tower. Click the wooden chest and take the crest. Go outside the house, go right three times, then up. Click the crypt door and go inside. Click the yellow chest and get the toy. Go right and do the same. Go left twice and click the panel, then click the dirty cog. Go back to the basement in the house. Click the blue container to dip the cog in lye, then pick it up again. Go back to the crypt and replace the cog. Click the purple portal. Now help all spirits: one at the driveway entrance south of the house, one at the right-most screen with the ash, and one in the tower.

Enjoyed this so much I went back and played your other recent horror games. You've nailed that retro-horror vibe, and it's fun to see the different implementations of it you've done; I think selfishly I like the 3rd-person-adventure ones best because my mouse skills aren't deft enough for all these orbs. Great stuff! Looking forward to Chapter 3!

I guess I'm an idiot. I have only got in, got the key to the room, drunk my drink, and tried using the key card from the office. That's all I can figure out. Not crazy difficult for some. :(

Thanks for the game. Really enjoyed it. Got 108, or something, spirit orbs (you get more by clicking the head stones and coffins), and 0 hints used. Wasn't crazy difficult - which for me in adventure games usually means I can eventually figure it out without having to google the answer, lol.

With regard to BowWow200, I feel as though this is an excellent retro-style point and click adventure with an immense amount of potential. I sent you a personal message since I felt it was a better medium for discussion. The big thing is that this game has room for more character and ways of instilling subtle hints by just using the dialogue prompts more creatively. You've absolutely got this, and I'm very interested in seeing Chapter 3, if there will be one!
Thanks. I got your messages, there was some really useful feedback so I appreciate you taking the time to do that. I've very nearly finished writing chapter 3!

Overall I liked the game. I think the story is good and the puzzles weren't too difficult. However, I think the game could benefit from more direct indication that actions at one location have had some sort of effect elsewhere. There were a number of occasions in which I returned to a location to find a new path had opened up without really knowing why. Although this might have been because I played without sound.

requires a lot of backtracking, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. some things were left unanswered, such as who was sobbing, whose eye was that looking back at you, and why someone was using the toilet for so long. but overall, i enjoyed it. 110 orbs btw.
Thanks. There's the map to make backtracking a bit quicker, but I'll add more locations on it in future. The owner was sobbing because of teh situation. The eye was just added for a little horror. And the toilet was occupied because I didn't want to give you room as a red herring.

As far as the spirit orbs >100 thing goes -- I get the impression that interacting with some of the paintings can generate further ones sometimes. Could that be why some of the numbers are higher than anticipated?
Once a hidden orb has been found it shouldn't spawn again. To be honest I'm sure I just added too many to the game. I'm not going to remove them though, so everyone has the chance to find them all.

I got fairly far in the game (I think) before getting stuck. I looked up a video on youtube and it shows to get rid of the gardener you need to set off his trucks alarm but his truck isnt in the parking lot. I think my game is bugged.

This is great! I played your Episode 1 Grimoire game on Newgrounds, and this 2nd Episode is so much more fleshed-out and stunning! It's like the other game but in 1st-person, and I'm really enjoying the change in visual perspective.
I love the art, the colors, the music, and especially the ability to look at and read about everything I click. The hint system being specific to one page/scene is very creative and smart. I'm still in the middle of the game, but I just wanted to say thanks for sharing :D

thanks for the tip about the computer @bowwow200 I finished the game with 103 orbs, I wonder what 6 I missed ^_^ I really like that the paintings have descriptions of what they look like even though they're just frames. Really nice game :)

Is there a way to use inventory items with things in the scene? I know I need to do something with the keycard and the computer but I don't know how to get them to interact.

Excellent game! Great mechanics and plot, for a short evening of spooky fun. I suppose your next challenge is graphics, though what you've done with pixel art is also impressive.

The space bar key causes the window to scroll down. Need to capture the keypress. e.g. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22559830/html-prevent-space-bar-from-scrolling-page

Clicking the music on/off button in the main menu doesn't actually do anything (using Chrome). The music still plays. The SFX button works though.

i can´t get rid of the gardener. I watched a walkthrough video and learned that i need a green car in the car park. How can i make the green car appear?

Was there anything we could do about the room with sobbing noises? The first page of the ending seemed to suggest that there was more I could have done to investigate.
