I've made it to the last battle, fighting off Harold of England. My cavalry smash his units and retreat, only to return again and mow them over. Harold sits at the back of his army, shouting names and insults while his forces are pummeled into the ground. Again and again I win each skirmish, and when only Harold is left, he shouts one last jeer. My entire army is fearful, despite the victories. The insult was the last straw, my entire army retreating at the insult despite outnumbering the final forces 5:1.
Seriously though, what the hell. I don't feel like replaying that level xD

It's been years since I've played this game. Came back today, went on Custom, chose Hard, chose Large battle, used only half of the points, and defeated an army over twice my army's size.

The gameplay is possibly one of the worst, more complicated and not funny I have ever seen. The game was interesting until the fight started...

Shortly: 1066 is one of the best strategic games I've played as a kid.
With little flaws, 1066 manages to show the Viking invasion with historical accuracy, and in a way that is interesting.
With the involvement of keyboard controls and a bit of calculations in your head as well you need to take command of an army, type fast, and make sure they don't spam taunt.
I'm giving this a quick rating of 8/10. I wish the servers were up.

this game is a piece of shit when I spammed space for a charge it didn't register one tap and the attack is horrible I switch buttons and it doesn't register a single tap and typing is delay is horrid

I had only lost about 20% of my troops, and only part of the enemy royal guard was left. All of my troops retreated and I was given the battle rank of peasant. This moral system is game-breaking.

Historically Inaccurate but still enjoyable. Controls are finicky and music could be better. Varangian guards werent viking soldiers and while they were elite axemen, They were from byzantium or the eastern roman empire/purple romans. Also varangian guard were not formally adopted as a regiment for the byzantine army in 1066. Sorry im a history nerd. Fun game, I would recommend as a timewaster but not an educational source. Good effort and great voice acting btw

Wow. I played this on hard and the first battle only 215 people were left alive out of over 8000. That is very intense.

Pretty nice game and idead, but the commands need a lot of work, key stroks during battls dosent register well and the bow controll some times just completly fails. So some polishment need here. Evrything else, its just pretty good.
