Why does it always give me a group of ranged enemies when I'm a level 2 barbarian? It's always unwinnable. Love this game, but sometimes it's a little too random.

@Knarlg For future reference, it's possible to walk on lava (and into other things like red mushrooms) by Shift + Clicking on the dangerous tile.

@Inonimus The advantage of barb is the quick reset of skills through killing. For this, a better melee weapon is very important. I prefer burst flame on fire mage. Imo levitation not worth the 10 MP for storm mage, just don't stand on water. Cone of cold is actually a super useful spell, the knockback is so useful. Don't upgrade it though, get freezing cloud to lvl 3 asap. I find god of wealth the best, but with altars you normally take whatever you can get. And yes, in this version strafe attack is extremely OP.

For all classes except fighter, spend most of your early skill points on fortitude. Mages should spend some on focus. Don't worry about the damage dealing skills until later. Save money for a skill trainer, then you can max your damage skill out that way.
If you don't have anything else to wish for, wish for potions. Odds are very good you'll get healing or energy potions which you can use to improve your hp/mana. Sometimes you'll get levitation potions though, and that sucks.
Avoid the arcane tower unless you have a powerful character with a ranged attack. The sewer is much much easier.
The best charms are blink an healing, and the best god is the healing god. Sell extra items that won't save you in a pinch, and save your money for the skill trainer. Occasionally it's best to buy stuff from the merchant, but it's always overpriced.

Warrior: best HP, but lacks powerful talents. Search for tomes to fill out the character. Barbarian: challenging class. Get strafe and prioritize a ranged weapon-- use a wish for a staff. Focus on HP, and strafe to victory. Rogue: get your stealth up and get a good weapon. You can sleep dart and one-shot most monsters. Ranger: Easy-- just strafe around a lot. Fire Mage: level up fireball and get firebolt. Flaming hands is bad. Focus on your HP, and try to get another spell, like freeze or confusion from a book. Storm Mage: get shock. Thunderclap is bad. Focus on HP and try to get an external spell. Levitation is worth it. Ice Mage: cone of cold is weaker than others, but freezing cloud and freeze are great. Don't worry about ice armor until late. Necromancer: easy-- just focus on mana and use skeletons. Enchanter: easy. Level up confusion. Fear isn't needed. Charm is, but you don't need to level it up. and swiftness is great if you remember to use it.
Strafe is best talent.

Finally beat this, enchanter ftw, nothing better to get rid of the high level mobs than confusing a group of them and letting them fight it out.

Finally! It is possible to win with the barbarian, but you need a lot of equipment and luck. And patience. All in all a truly great (but frustrating) game!

@Wattletree I rate the top 3 classes as: Ranger, Storm Mage, Warrior. 1 mage out of 3. Protection and resistances work great, I don't see your problem there. Is 7 potions really that many? It's not like you get spammed with them all at once. As for spells, just pick 1 or two that you like, ignore the rest.

if there is one thing i *hate* in every single rpg is everything magic. another bar to look after, endless lists of spells and potions, bullshit equipment that don't protect, and the list goes on and on and on. so when you tell me that, instead of updating your game, you make another one that looks * E X A C T L Y * like its predecessor just to add a few more types of magic old guys and some talents/spells and equipment for them, this is where i call your game complete and utter bullshit. worst of all, you NEED to use one of the mages to win this unreasonably unbalanced game. i don't even give a shit anymore for your games. 1/5

Forgot to mention this, but for Necromancer the way to deal with Crystal Golems is Summon Skeletons. Or, if you get Charm somehow, Charmed creatures don't reflect.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
As far as I can tell, Necromancer is the best class by far. Life Drain everything, keep mana up with Life Tap. Never use the Disease spell, its far too easy to kill yourself with it. All skill points into more HP. If you find a tome of Enchanter magic, take it, Confusion, the speed spell, and Charm are OP with pretty much unlimited mana. Keep an eye out for Crystal Golems, they reflect Life Drain right back at you, which will likely kill you. Having something to clear physical status effects is probably a good idea.

This game never ceases to impress me. Stuck on a platform surrounded by lava and no blink or teleport magic. After having almost given up, I cast confusion on myself and FINALLY meandered over to safety. Love this game.

How do i walk on dangerous terrain? I was trapped by like 8 monsters and a single fire wall and if I could have walked through it I would have survived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@pickle69 This is not a game of chance. Experienced players can get really high win rates (90%+) with any class, in well under the 45min achievement times every game.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Definitely a vast decline from the last game. You've effectively made this game into one of almost pure chance, and taken any skill out of it. Having a more predictable, very high difficult game is a lot better than having a high difficulty game with an increase in variability. 2/5 stars, even though Rogue Fable II was 5/5 stars.

As a Fire Mage is there any reason to spend talent points on Flaming Hands? My Staff of Fire seemingly does the same thing, but better.
It seems like there are few situations that it would be worth getting for any class. I mean, maybe if that's your only flame skill going into the Ice Caves, but...????

Note to self: Don't Charm/Dominate Fire Golems becuase they produce floating fireballs that are also dominated and follows you till it explodes if there is no enemy.

Tip of the Day: If you drink a health potion when you're at full health, it will raise your max HP. Mana will be raised by 1 point. Took me some 1000 deaths to figure this out...

@Strabbo In the steam version there is a race called the mummy with no hunger. The primary strategy is to play a mage, spam spells to kill everything on screen, then rest to get all HP/MP back immediately. It's pretty silly. (Also OP for melee, imagine a barb that can heal back to full after every fight!)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
@Rain_King, that's a sound theory, but I don't know. The hunger mechanic was present in RFII, and there was no rest feature or regeneration in that game. Might just be a tweak for semi-realism?

This feel when you shot on metal golem and he reflect it back to you for 180 demage.:-D (And it was last of 3 mobs before end.)

Food is guaranteed to drop on floors 4, 8, 12, 16, with every merchant (floor 9) and the 4th floor of side dungeons. Food is used at a bit less then 1 per 4 floors, so there should always be enough. If you are running out of food the most common reason is resting too much - try and reduce the damage you take by using the terrain.
