@Kosh67: a) There is no need to fight for beginner fishing, the beginner fishing spot is right inside the town. b) clay is down the ladder on the left side of town, inside the town area. c) Market transactions do not need both parties to be online. If you bought from a player with a sell offer, then the item is in your storate chest now. (the forge is a shortcut to the weapon's section of the player market). Generally, I recommend asking for advice in the ingame chat if you get stuck. :-)

For fishing, you need to get a fishing rod, use it to equip it, and go to the southwest side of the island to click on the whirlpools off the dock to fish. When your inventory gets full, go to the NPC holding the fishing rod nearby, select raw perch/frog, and choose sell all. Repeat over and over and over and over and over again.

Last time I tried playing this, the game convinced me to leave my sword in a chest on Tutorial Island and some critter killed me and stole my fishing pole while I was trying to fish. Now I'm trying to do a quest, mining for clay, which I figure I CAN do since I have a pickaxe. Where do I do it? The NPC says I can click on the Quest tab and click on the quest to be told where I can do it. I do so and it says "Clay - Materials, right hand". Wow! Thanks! That's so helpful! Then I tried clicking randomly to explore and came across a forge. What does this do? OH CRAP! I CAN BUY WEAPONS! Let's see. I have 3000 gold. What can I get? OK, I can buy and iron flail for 2297. DONE! Click. Money disappears. Check inventory. Where is it? Click on forge again it says "[You are BUYING] Iron Flail" seller - troiana. WTF? I need to wait for Troiana to sign on and complete the sale, who, like me, might never want to see this game again? I want my gold back. What a pointless waste of time. I'm out.

If anyone's planning on getting the Fishing achievement, cook 'em for the cooking achievement. And then do the Accuracy one since that also can spawn as BoTD (and does quite often).

While you're working on the fishing achievement, make sure to cook the fish and frogs on the campfire so you can also get the cooking achievement.

So you want to do bot detection, but you use a method that gives you a ton of false positives because the game works in a way that encourages the players to play in a way that creates those false positives.
If you want the players to play actively, then clicking on a tree once to chop it should not fill your inventory. It should only give you one log and then you have to click another tree (Like how killing monsters work. Even aggressive monsters don't attack you when they respawn if you haven't moved). Players are playing inactively when leveling up their material gathering skills because that's how the game is designed, and then you implement a system that punishes your players for playing that way.

To those complaining about the captchas: When you are really doing nothing, no captcha will come because they are action-dependent. But standing still and crafting or fishing can trigger them. Movement plays no role, actions do.

I don't understand why being AFK for a few minutes (instead of watching my guy through every tedious minute he spends chopping wood) makes it likely I'm a bot who may need to be banned from the game. Surely just one captcha per session is enough to prove I'm human?

This game is really just clicking on one thing, waiting and then clicking on another thing. Slowly increasing useless levels until you've spent hundreds of hours increasing useless levels. Many other MMORPGs actually provide fast paced gameplay.

It is not very helpful to call a complex game, which has been constantly developed for 12 years and is designed for years of play, "trash" after an hour of play.

It didn't take too long for me to go from level 2 fishing to level 30 fishing - maybe an hour - I was doing other stuff, dropping back in to rotate the guy between fishing, cooking and selling - if you are in a rush, you can just fish, fish, fish, dumping the catch without cooking and selling it

People who have gotten the badge: how long did it take you? I'm figuring out whether or not it's worth trying to get the BOTD (while watching a YouTube video on another screen).

There's actually a much closer Fishing Net spot at 29,6 which is near the General Shopkeeper.
That said, Net Spots seem to only give level 5 fish and seaweed, so once you hit level 10 or 15 it's more efficient to swap back to fishing rod, for both XP and gold.
Also, there are achievements for both fishing and cooking at L30, and if you cook all your fish hauls, cooking will level at approximately the same speed, so you can get two badges at once.

Oh and feel free to just destroy the fish in your inventory if you don't think you'll ever play again, it'll free up inventory space and won't waste your time. Plus there's a convenient destroy all button.

@Kosh67 Items placed in a chest can be accessed at any other chest. There's a chest in the respawn area you can get your weapons from, but even if you lose your weapons and tools entirely, you can fight tools boxes in the area with the chickens north of the respawn area to get replacement tools- they're designed to be weak enough you don't need anything to kill them. You can also harvest the 'floating debris' in that area without tools. You may take a little damage doing these things but it'll regenerate quickly enough when you stop. There's an NPC with purple hair at the bottom of the respawn area who'll buy anything. You can buy basic tools and weapons from other NPCs in the respawn area. I love this game, but I admit the tutorial could be better. But hey, that's what I'm here for!

Once you get to fishing level 5 you can purchase the fishing net for 100 coins once again still from the Dorpat Fishing Master (Dorpat 12,12) and fish at (Dorpat 61,6).
Getting there is a bit tricky, but if you use the click and move system you should be able to find your way over there.

The coordinate system I'm using in this tutorial is the basic game coordinate (x,y) system, you should be able to see this in your upper right.
Step 1
To begin fishing, you need to equip a fishing tool. The most basic tool is the Fishing Rod.
If you didn't get one from Tutorial Island, you can purchase a fishing rod from the Dorpat Fishing Master (Dorpat 12,12) for 40 coins.
If you don't have coins and you lost all your equipment to an orc mage who kicked your butt, feel free to kill some cows, white rats, chickens, and hens for some basic drops. feel free to attack "Tools boxes" and "barrels" for some basic drops
Conveniently there's also fishing spot at Dorpat (6,13) where you can fish and then cook the fish you fished at the campfire (Dorpat 17,18) to sell it for a higher value.
Make sure to go back to the Dorpat Fishing Master (Dorpat 12,12) to sell your fish once you get them so that you can afford the Fishing net

OK, next gate and hey! Here's a boat! OK, this took me to a town, a one way trip of course, so bye bye, chest with all my weapons. So what am I supposed to do now? I assume this means that since I have no weapons, I can no longer get the "easy" BOTD, unless, of course, I'm missing something, whatever it is. I also had an encounter with a Orc Mage who kicked my butt, stealing my axe and my fishing rod. So what am I supposed to do now? 1/5. Also, Kongregate, if you’re only going to allow 1000 characters in a comment, how about giving us a live counter of how many characters we’ve actually used like pretty much every other site on the web does, too, instead of expecting us to live count it in our heads so we don’t get an error message when we try to post our comments after pouring out all our emotions and forcing us to cut it back? 1/5 for Kongregate as well. 2/2

I'm sorry. I tried to like this, but this game is absolute trash. The tutorial makes absolutely NO sense. Even worse is that when you go through a gate in the tutorial you can't go back! This is ESPECIALLY bad at the end when the guy tells you to put EVERYTHING in "your" chest to get access to the market place and... OK? Have you SEEN the prices at the market place? I've got something like 60 coins and the prices people are asking are up over a MILLION! I put everything in the chest, went back to the "tutor" and he told me the same thing. Something didn't seem right, though, so I took my tools out of the chest and went through the gate and discovered I had enemies to kill. Of course, the gate being one way, I couldn't go back to get my weapons which were, of course, in the chest. 1/2

Equipment should not take up Backpack slots. If you are WEARING something, logically it would not still be in your backpack. I also hate that I can accidentally unequip something just by clicking on it wrong.

There are a lot of "idle" games out there, but as far as I know, this is the only game with an overabundance of "idle" mechanics yet which actively discourages idle play with spontaneous timed CAPTCHA requirements. For the first time in my entire life, a game is actively trying to punish me for using the toilet. And you thought this was such a fabulous idea that you copy-pasted the same game and released it again twice? Amazing.
